550 Edition exhaust tip fitment
I have a 2002 S and would like to know if a 550 Edition tip would fit my standard dual tip muffler. I'm asking because just looking at the pictures on Suncoast, it's hard to tell how it mounts. I'm also not sure if my boxster was made before or after 08/02.

I'm going to bump this thread as there was no response and I am also curious about this tip as I think it gives our cars a very unique look.

Thanks for searching!
Early Box exhaust tips were welded on, sometime either late 02 or 2003 changed to bolt-on tips.

I can't speak to the 2002, but I know that on 2001s the tips cannot be removed. I believe in 2003 they changed the muffler and made the tip removable.

The mufflers changed in 2003 and both the base and the S from then on use the same muffler, just different bolt on "finishers," i.e. chrome tips. Before that there were separate mufflers for base and S and the tips were welded on. I don't know which later chrome tip style is the cheapest, but the cheapest is about $450 from Porsche. It looks very much like the '03-'04 complete muffler bolts right on to at least the '00-'02 models, but not positive ... and I think that's pretty much the only way to use one of the removable extensions such as the 550 version.

'03/'04 mufflers bolt right up to a 01/02, that's what I have.

FWIW... the build date of your car (MM/YY) is on the VIN sticker.

The 550 exhaust tip bolts to the muffler but is not attached fully. Here is a really bad picture but I think you can see the space around the tip.

Hope this helps.

I have a stock '03 S muffler that I will be selling as I put a PSE system on the car. The tips on the '03 and '04s attach with a clamp over the middle seam on the top and one bolt on the bottom. The exhaust exits on the muffler are almost flush with muffler and just dump into the tip, which is contoured to fit fairly tightly to the muffler.
I believe 8/02 and later production was all '03 model year, so if you have a '02, they you have the welded on tips.
You could probably cut off the tips and weld on a bracket to bolt the tip to if you really wanted to. This picture of the '03/'04 muffler shows the mounting bracket without the tip.

Will revive old thread to post a related question ...
It appears the exhaust cutout shape in the rear bumper is changed for 2003--the part number for the heat shield is for sure changed.
Does this mean that bumper modification is required when fitting a 2003-4 muffler with associated bolt-on tip to a 2002-earlier car?

No... they fit without issue.
