This normal for a boxster?

Hi,bought a 2003 boxster 50,000km's last year. Its been siting for 3 months over the winter in garge.Started it up today and big buff a white smoke filled the garege.I owned a 911sc and sat there 6months and only a little smoke come out. This normal?

Did it go away after it was running for a couple of minutes?

eomak 02-29-2008 07:46 AM

Hi, yea was under 45secs. after start-up

blue2000s 02-29-2008 08:03 AM

Nothing to worry about.

eomak 02-29-2008 08:07 AM

Its just seems odd for a newer vechicle to blow smoke like for sitting only 3months. I can understand if it was sitting for 8 months ,but thanks for reply.

Ya...I was on here not too long ago worried about the same thing. Apparently, its just from the design of the engine. The oil drains to the cylinder heads causing this.

Yep. Mine does the same everytime.

Mine smokes if it sits for a few days / less than a week. Everyone told me that it is normal and I kept thinking they were just patting me on the head and telling me not to worry about it. This forum helped me see that it is normal.

great thanks for reminding me! i am starting my car in one hour. it hasn't been started in 4 months.

Yup normal. I usually only drive the Box on the weekends, so it sits for about 4-5 days. Smokes at start up for about 30-45 secs. No worries.

Good to know. I was worried about a rear main seal when mine smoked the other day.

blue2000s 02-29-2008 04:13 PM

RMS doesn't smoke, it just leaks.

VTCMart 02-29-2008 04:36 PM

A LOT of smoke at startup could be a bad Oil/Air separator. You can check by removing the intake hose after the throttle/engine side (dead center of the engine on a 3.2) and check for puddling of oil. It is an easy fix and can be picked up for >$100.
