Front hood latch on 99

Hello,

I am having front hood latch problems tonight.

For starters the when I tried to open it tonight it was nearly imposible, almost like the cable was not realsing the hood. I had someone hold open the inside latch but that did not do any good.

Finally after a screwdriver and a towel I was able to raise the hood enough to open it.

I looked at everything sprayed some wd 40 and figured worse case I will get it fixed next month some time. SO I shut the hood. I had to try my wd 40 and see if that helped. It help 100% the hood opened right up.

Now the problem, I can not get it to close. It looks like the lock is stuck in the open position.

Does anyone have or know where I can find a diagram of the front hood latch?

Ever happen to anyone else?

Thanks
Gary

my front compartment is much hard to open than my rear compartment. Does that sound normal?

After a few hours of frustration last night with my hood latch here is what happened.

My hood would not close, so I assumed the locking mechanism of the latch was in the way. I tried to move it out of the way and nothing would open up large enough to fit the hood portion of the latch.

Lil Bastard helped by sending me the diagram for the latch.

What happened was the spring for the locking mechanism came off and was not pulling the lock out of the way.

I had to take the entire latch out of the car and reinstall it. If I had to do it again I could do it all in under 30 minutes.

As a byproduct my hood now raises up the 1/2 inch it did years ago.

I should have taken pictures but last night a DIY was not important to me. But the brand of tape to use to tape my hood down in case I could not get it to work was.

Thanks for the help last night Lil, this board is a great place to have in situations like mine lst night.
