Greetings to the Forum!

I’m….uhhh…we’re new ’03 S ‘parents’ with a few questions for the group…

Mats: We would like to purchase rubber mats with a ‘lip’ on them to ensure dirt, sand, etc… stays within the confines of the mat. We have Husky Liners in our ’04 Highlander, and LOVE them! Suggestions/recommendations?

Starting: Our ‘teenager’ is due for state inspection in March. It has been on ‘life support’ (battery maintainer) since mid Feb. in our unheated garage. Is there anything I need to be concerned about prior to starting? I read somewhere that after sitting for a period of time, the owner (?) suggested placing the car in 5th gear and hand pushing for at least 1 rotation of the engine to ensure nothing ‘stuck’ from sitting. Is this an ‘urban legend’ or something that may be legit? Can I start it to listen to the purrrrr without causing any damage?

We can’t wait until the snow melts and things dry out in NH so we can enjoy our new purchase. Friday/Sat. forecast…..more SNOW! Go figure :)

Mats - I think I saw a post about some nice mats at Suncoast.com in FL. Check WeatherTech or LLoyds also. I've not searched for rubber floor mats. My rubber trunk mats came from WeatherTech. They do not have a lip, however. Just a bunch of small cavities to hold liquids.

Starting after such a short period is not likely to cause a problem. Especially with maintainer to keep battery happy.

Hope you really enjoy the Box after it fires on first try.

Pushing the car makes sense when the engine has sat for an entire season without use. Sounds like your talking about a week or two. While it might not hurt anything to do it, I wouldn't worry about it.

However -- don't be surprised if it lets out some white smoke at startup. When the flat six engine sits for a while, its not unusual for a very small amount of oil to leak into the chamber & burn off when you start it. Its just the way the engine is designed & it happens to all of them.

Get some snow tires & drive it! The Boxster is a blast in the snow. Its very balanced which makes it easy to control when you intentionally slide it around...

those very beautiful suncoast mats are for 2005 and younger. :(
they recommended a Husky since I couldn't fit the good looking ones, and I passed.

congrats on the buy.. I too have a 03 boxster but i live in florida so i havnt seen snow for a little while now... I havnt tried pushing my car after its sat for a while, but i have let it sit for about a week and a half and have a plethora of white smoke come out the back..try it and c what happends :)
