valet key part number?

I called the local dealer to get a valet key for my 2000 boxster porsche and he said that I can only get a full key since he does not have a part number. Is this true?

Thanks
Nick

I was trying to get a valet key recently, and reached the same dead end. No one new about the valet key, despite the picture of one in the owners manual.

I ended up getting a key made by a local locksmith with a laser key cutter. It works great for surfing, etc. but it lacks the transmitter so the car will immobilized if you try and start the car with it.
If you only want a key to get in/out of the car I would go this route as it cost me about $40, vs. $200 for a valet key, if you can find one.

I found this part number OEM-99653842301

does that part have the chip so the car will start?

That part appears to just be the smaller key cap that is inside the full key with the transmitter and battery, etc. So no it doesn't have the chip.

When my remote key-head died, I bought a valet key head and swapped the chip from the remote head to the valet key head. I also swapped the metal key from the remote head to the valet head. Now I have a spare key I can keep in my wallet, instead of a spare key with a big dead remote on it.

This thread discusses it. I can't remember where I found the part number for the head. I think it was on renntech somewhere.

Here's the other thread, but no part number is to be found there.
