Best Pre - 2002 model year to buy?

Does anyone have any input as to the best pre 2002 model year to buy. I recall reading in Consumer Reports that year 2000 models had a superior repair history. Thanks....

Looking to buy base model sub $20k with under 60k miles.

An 01 S is the best! Seriously, buy as much as you can afford. There are threads all over this board that offer tips on pre purchase inspections, common issues, etc....An educated buyer is a happy consumer

There are differences and weaknesses by model year

There is a buying guide, differences list and problem areas list available at http://mike.focke.googlepages.com/mikesporscheboxsterwebpages
