19" rims on a 2002 S

I am looking to put 19" rims on a 2002 S, Want to know if that is to big of a jump in size and make it look funny.

blkboxster 01-14-2008 02:57 PM

19s wont look bad, but its better to stick with 18s

Heres mine with 19's. 2000 986

steve00s 01-14-2008 03:07 PM

How much does ride comfort decrease with 19's? That doesn't leave much sidewall to absorb shock.

rule1 01-14-2008 03:09 PM

I have h@r springs, but I had them with the 17's and I could not tell a huge difference with the bigger wheels.

I noticed you have had the GIAC tuning, Can you tell a big diffrence? I have evo intake, Headers, and exhaust.

Welcome DMAN2002,

I like the look of 19's. I'm sure others will disagree with the proportions.

All will agree you should post some pictures of your car. We would love to see it.

I prefer the look of 19s also. I stepped up from 18s and noticed very little difference in ride quality.

Thanks for the reply

Im looking to put on 19X8 in the front with 225 30 19's, and 19x9.5 in the rear with 265 30 19's
How wide are the rims on your cars?
What size tires are you running?
Are any of those cars lowered?

Love the pictures it gives me some great ideas.

Thanks,
Dman

My rims are 19x8 and 19x9.5. the tires are 235/35/19 and 275/30/19. The car is not lowered and I'm not running spacers.

rule1 01-14-2008 06:07 PM

Yes mine is lowered and I am running 19x8.5 and 19x10 with 235/35/19 and 275/30/19. No spacers

The GIAC tuning by itself isn't that noticeable. Nor is the intake. Together along with freer flowing exhaust is quite noticeable. The headers really wake it up.

Man I thought that your car was lowered, it looks great.

DMAN2002: I put 19s on my 986 and just hated the ride and cowl shake. There was a large wheel well gap and it didn't look good at stock height. I didn't want to lower it and worsen the ride. I only ride with the 19s for 1200 miles and the took them off and am now looking for 18s.

I ran 225/35/19 & 275/30/19.

Heres a more recent pic.

I love the way 19s look, but for me they are not soft enough for every day driving nor track appropriate. You will notice a bit of loss in pick up because they tend to way more than the stock set up and 18s. Just my opinion. Unless you can find some super lightweight 19s then I say more power to you. The general rule is not to go more than 3 wheel sizes over your cars stock set up. ;)
