Problem starting the car

So today I tried to start the car after having it sitting in my garage for a week. I turned the key and hear the starter sound but the engine does not start. Does not look like a battery problem as my key remote still works and all the lights in my car came up fine. I confirmed it by jummping start the car with my other car and still same problem. What should be my next steps?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

The starter gears could be bad. I heard about this a while ago, I think someone posted a DIY replacement.

It looks like my battery is totally gone and does not hold any charge. :( I am going to buy a new battery from AutoZone and replace it myself. Are there any things I need to be aware of when replacing the battery? Thanks!

I would recommend doing a search on renntech, if this is the first time you are changing the battery on your boxster.

Few points to be aware of (986): size 48 is the "stock" size. size 47 (smaller) and 49 (larger) should both fit. There are holes in the battery compartment to help hold down all three sizes (you'll see that when you take out your original battery). Some years (97, iirc) have complained about not having a wide enough hole such that the 49 size could fit. YMMV.

When you get the battery (assuming you are going with original style, and not the optima/gel/fancy batteries), make sure that it has the vent tube (it'll look like a snorkel tube). Also note that the location of the vent tube in the factory battery is different than the aftermarket batteries (the latter have it on the side, towards the middle of the battery).

Oh, and do you have your radio code? :)
