price delta

I'm looking at two base boxsters with similar miles (35K) and options...one is a 2004 and one a 2006...

the 2004 has had one owner while the 2006 has had three onwers...both are at dealers with similar warranties...

what do the think the price difference should be between the two?

thanks

it is just about $8000 worth of extra stuff...my wife and i just don't use the car, we put like 1400 miles on it. we would use a gti or r32 as they have a hatch

go with the newer model, will hold somewhat more of value, and its a newer car.
couse they both similar but one 2 years younger.
who cares how many people couldn't afford it after they got it?

Wow, 3 owners on the 2006 and 35,000 miles! Strange.

go with the 2006 if u can get a good price on it, dont let it worry u that its had 3 previous owners, if anything its still under warranty

If price doesn't matter -- go with the newer car. Consider getting a 100K mile CPO warranty too if possible.

There is a very big change between the 986 model (last year was '04) and the 987 model that started in '05. So the car is two years newer & its the newer platform. That justifies the price delta.

Now, regarding three owners -- something to think about is a Boxster is a love-it or hate-it car. Some folks love it, then regret it. Sometimes lifestyles change. Sometimes they decide to "upgrade" to a 911 or a Cayman (or who knows). I wouldn't over think the 3 owner thing with a Boxster. I suspect its not that unusal.

I've got an 01 box - bought with 35.9K miles. I was owner #3. 5-6 Months later, I still own it and it had 39K miles.

Although my car is much older, it still has a similar ratio of owners per mile. Although I might possibly interpret this as a sign of a problematic car, I get the feeling these boxsters change hands a lot.

I'd hope a decent PPI would clear up any worries of future problems that might result from 3 owners.

From VMR I get a price difference of 10,175. I'd check Galves for you, but I've misplaced my login right now...

986's and 987's each have their pluses and minuses, but if you can swing it, the upgrades in the 987 are nice to have.

Either way, you couldn't have picked a better time to buy. You should be able to negotiate a nice deal, in other words, you're in the driver's seat now!! (no pun intended)
