45k mile service
Hi,
does anyone know what a 45k miles service includes? Is it just a "glorified oil change", meaning can I do it myself or is there any serious work to be done? Thanks |
Chris: This is directly from my dealer 45k service invoice: (personally I believe many of these items are skipped by many dealers, such as my dealer did not find the small parking light was out on the ltronics on one side).
oil change check air filter, replace if needed read out fault codes visual inspection underside and engine compartment for leaks chafing wires and hoses check underbody paneling securely fastened check power sterring fluid level check coolant hose condition, check for debris and blockage of radiators and air inlets check coolant level and antifreeze protection level replace pollen filter check brake hoses and lines for signs of damage, corrosion and correct routing check brake fluid level check drive shaft boots for leaks and signs of damage check tire condition and pressure check firewall and cabrio section body drains for debris check for adjustment and functioning properly, door locks, lid locks and safety hook of front lid check inner release of front luggage compartment on 2002+ (2003+ boxster) check operation of vehicle lights check headlight alignment check horn operation windshield washer, headlight washer check fluid level, nozzle settings, and antifreeze protection level check operation of all other elctrical equipment and indicator and warning lights also during road or dyno test: remote control, front seats, foot brake, parking brake, engine, clutch, steering, transmission park assist, cruise control, TC/pwm switches, heate, AC, check operation Oils, fluids, visual inspection for leaks Also airbag check and brake fluid change are on a cycle (I think 4 years for airbag and 2 for brake fluid I need to check). So depending on when those were done last they may do those too (probably at extra cost) They also added one bottle of fule injector cleaner to the gas tank |
excellent, thanks!
yes, that IS a glorified oil change :D |

I read in the owner's manual that Porsche doesn't recommend any additives to the fuel. I've got a 65K mile '99 Box and was wondering about adding a bottle of Techron to the tank. Not really? Or worth a try? |
Obviously your car, your choice. I run a bottle of SeaFoam through every 2-4,000 miles. I've always had great success with it and there aren't any negatives to it I'm aware of.

techron is one of the few additives porsche says is okay. like steve said, your car so do what you want. i have used techron before in the boxster, lubro molly and marvel mystery oil in the past in the 944. i dont know that any of them actually "do" anything.
now the only thing i add is sta-bil when i put it away for the winter. |
