All you 987S non-PASM owners:

I am thinking about buying a 2005 S with the stock wheels and no PASM, and am just wondering if the suspension will be too harsh for our southern NM roads. I like a firm suspension, of course, but I want something supple enough that I can enjoy driving it up to Boulder now and then. What do you think, any advice? TIA, Alan.

Completely fine. A non-PASM suspension works well with either the stock 18" or optional 19" wheels. When the 987 was introduced in 2005, journalists wrote that the non-PASM suspension with 19" wheels was too harsh, and recommended either PASM or 18" wheels. I have had both a non-PASM and PASM suspension Boxster S with 19" wheels, and found both acceptably smooth and very communicative. I am sure that the stock 18" wheels with non-PASM will feel even smoother. For comparison, my other car is an '07 BMW 335i with run-flat tires, and find the BMW a bit harsher when the road surface deteriorates.

I have non-PASM on 18s and it is perfect. I know some swear by it but I test drove both before I bought mine on 18s and 19s and never really noticed a difference worth bothering over. My personal theory is that it makes more of a difference on the 997 than the 987 due to the different set ups and Porsche just rolled it into the 987 as an option but I have no idea if that is true.
