Porter Cable 7424 for $95.00
 

Hey,

This guy has Porter Cables new-in-the-box for $95.00. They are not refurbished. I thought that was pretty darned good, so I bought one. He has 5 left.

Excellent deal...I bought mine from Coastal Tool with weights, etc for $125. If you've never used one of these, you'll be in for a big surprise...and my car is black.

This one comes with the side handle and counterweights, etc. I have a Cyclo random orbital and a Makita rotary, but everybody swears by the Porter Cable. I figured for $95.00, why not try one?

What exactly is a Porter Cable?

Comes in handy when the time comes for a full exterior detailing. Impressive results. Fun to use! (Though a little tiring after awhile. But it sure beats buffing by hand.)

Okay, it sounded like you were buying a $95 extension cord or something.

Just bought mine from griot's garage. Comes with 2 pads, clay bar, Polish, wax and speed shine for $199. Just used it this weekend with great results.

Here is another an Ebay for $95. I bought on from this guy 18 month ago for $109. Great tool.

You can have mine for $50 and any left over Pistachio ice cream you have in the fridge. That thing vibrates too hard when you are removing swirls. My arms are numb for hours. For maintenace/buffing its A+

What are you going to use?

If Santa doesn't bring his traditional lump of cole, maybe he will bring me a Cyclo.
Right now its the benchmark for orbitals. But I don't think I've been that good.

I've been good but not that good. For mere mortals do you still recommend a PC over other options for swirl busting and polishing? Griot's and others have their own versions and I'm interested how those compare in terms of results, quality, value, or PLF (Perfectlap factor)

That's so funny. I've had a Cyclo for more than 10 years. I even bought one for my Father for Father's Day a couple of years ago. Now that he has passed, I guess I'll have two. I absolutely love it and always have, but I hear constant raving about the Porter Cable. On the detailing section of 6speed, there were recently two guys going back and forth about how much they dislike the Cyclo. I finally gave in to my curiosity and bought the Porter Cable. Oh well, if the PC is inferior, I'll put it in the Rubbermaid container with my Makita. That thing scares the crap out of me. I'm always afraid I'll burn through with it. I have never damaged a car with my Cyclo...never.

The Cyclo is the Professional's choice and the PC is the enthusiasts choice.
The Cyclo will do the job quicker so for someone trying to do as many cars in a day as possible its the way to go. I'm guessing a pro detailer will have to spend a great deal of time doing corrective work than maintenance polishing and buffing while a two car owner will be doing corrective work only once or twice a year.
The Metabo and Makita are certainly not for the average weekend warrior. I saw some maintenace guys using a Makita the other day on building marble, scary to think some people try to teach themselves on a Porsche.

The other polishers Griots, Ultimate are a little less effective at corrective work because the motor produces less torque.

Funny that I'm often asked about detailing because I rarely do it now with a garaged silver car. I'm also not a die hard expensive wax user. I think most products with a few notable exceptions produce 99% similar results. There's allot of marketing malarkey and hype out there to get you to pay $30 for an $8 wax.

Griot's is maufactured by Porter-Cable...just re-labeled.

It's actually labeled "Porter-Cable". I thought of buying just the polisher but after researching the cost for the polisher and other accesories comes out close to what I would have paid buying the whole kit from Griot's Garage.

There is more than one PC orbital buffer. The 7424 and the 83 something, I think the shell is the same. From what I've read on Autopia, the Griots is not the 7424.
I actually read that the ultimate is a dewalt.
