79 year old woman caught going 149 in her boxster

79-year-old woman caught going 149 mph in Porsche Boxster said she 'needed to clear [her] head

A woman in Belgium was clocked going 147 mph in a Porsche Boxster GTS.

People cope with insomnia in different ways. Some lie in bed, staring at the ceiling. Others apparently go for a (very fast) ride in their sports car.

The latter seemed like more of an interesting choice for one 79-year-old woman from the city of Namur, Belgium

The Porsche Boxster GTS is quite the speedster, too. Weighing roughly 3,000 pounds, it has 330 horsepower, and can climb from 0 to 60 in under 4.7 seconds. The Boxster reaches a top speed of 173 mph, according to Porsche's official description.

CRAZY HIGH-SPEED CHASES

On the night of June 18, around midnight, the 79-year-old woman decided to test how quick her Boxster really was, and was recorded reaching speeds of 147 mph.

Gazet Van Antwerpen reports that the woman was due in court earlier this week, where she faced a judge who initially questioned whether she was behind the wheel at the time of the infraction. However, the woman fessed up to the infraction, but claimed she "had no idea" she was traveling that fast.

The 79-year-old had no criminal record prior to this speeding ticket, and was fined 4,000 euro, or roughly $4,500. She was also banned from driving for three months.

Fast Driving

I clear my head by putting the top down and driving a twisty road... at 45mph.

Honestly. If a 79 year old can do it comfortably maybe it's not as unsafe as they make out.

As much of a danger as a Tahoe going 55.

No way.

Granted, the Boxster may handle better than a Tahoe, but the Tahoe decelerates from 60-0 mph in 143 ft. A Boxster GTS decelerates from 70-0 mph in 142 ft. At almost 150 mph, the Boxster would slam into any inanimate object almost 300 ft. away.

I read an article once about a motorcyclist in Europe who was doing 150 mph on a roadway. He encountered a van entering the roadway from a side street. The motorcycle slammed violently into the side of the van, embedding itself in the vehicle. Investigators determined that the motorcyclist didn't have enough time to even begin to apply the brakes. THAT'S what 150 mph is like.

Just sayin'...........

Not altogether sure how they would have reached that conclusion. 150 mph is 220 ft/sec. That would give him well over.a second to react. I don't know about him, but I know in panic situations I've hit my brakes faster than that.

All irrelevant, of course...he certainly still never would have stopped in time. That's just crazy fast under anything other than perfect conditions...the likes of which virtually never occur on public roads

Remember that kinetic energy increases by the square of the speed, as does braking distance. On the track it is amazing how long braking distances become at the end of the straight.

Disregard the first paragraph of my last post...I misread the previous post, thinking the "300 ft" was part of the motorcycle story (which it apparently wasn't). I'll stand by the "crazy fast" part of my comment..

I need to avoid these fuzzy-headed, insomnia-driven, middle-of-the-night posts.

Go Granny Go

She should have taken a few minutes and crossed into Germany where the Autobahn would have welcomed her high-speed run.

149? What a wimp. She was probably still in 3rd or 4th at that speed. C'mon grandma. Stick your right foot in it.
