Benefits of not using the Box as a Daily Driver
I pulled the Boxster out of the garage this morning awakening it from it’s 2 week nap ( I figured I better since it might be the last time I get to drive it for awhile – winter storm watch tomorrow but sunny and 30 degrees today ) and I honestly forgot how much I missed my car ! My morning commute was like the scene in “Bruce Almightly” when he gets into the McLaren and parts the cars like the red sea ;) I must say it was the highlight of my day ( granted it was at 7:00 this morning ). For those of you that drive your Boxster everyday, after a long hiatus it’s like being reunited with a long lost love. Only 9 more hours until the ride home !
Have a great weekend everyone… Nick |
Nick, you better go home early today. They say the storm starts this afternoon.

Nick,
I know how you feel. I couldn't drive my Boxster for 7 weeks because of surgery on my right shoulder. It was almost torture seeing it just sitting there in the garage every day. Once back in the driver's seat it felt like I was driving it for the first time and I realized, again, just how much I love driving this car. I can barely raise my arm up over my head but I can shift. My shift from 4th to 5th is still a little slow, but who cares! I consider shifting part of my physical therapy. Regards, mike |

I was away for a couple weeks traveling for the holiday and as I opened the garage door this morning I instantly got a warm fuzzy feeling. Like it was Christmas morning and Santa left me present.
My neighbohr from China came over to me the other day and he said "you know I talk to my wife and I tell her I have decided one day I'm going to buy a car like that young guy next door!!". I think I've lost count at the number of middle aged guys who have approached me and said "I could have had one of those cars but I let the oppourtunity pass me by" or "you know young man you have my dream car". I only get that feeling when I see a Ferrari F430! LOL I feel allot better knowing that the wait list for a first time Ferrari buyer is 4 years. But I would never buy a new car. |

Stop watching the Weather Channel. Worst forecasting out there. ;) :p The storm will hit tomorrow. Nick, I totally know what you mean. My Box isn't my DD and when I do take her out it's such a thrill. I haven't started her in a week and its been getting cold so I plugged in the battery tender this morning. :( I hope I can get a drive in tonight. |
I take my Box to work each Friday. It gives me something to look forward to all week. When I went out to get the morning paper today at 5:30 AM, it was raining. The box never goes out in the rain.
Now I'm really bummed. :ah: |
Exactly same for me....Usually only a Friday driver to work (only 6 miles each way) and then a very light amount of weekend driving if the weather is perfect. Remember, everything gets washed Saturday morning! :)
After cleaning out the throttle body and improving my gas mileage and idle substantially (went from ~13MPG to ~20+), the gas seems to stay in the tank better too. :) Oh, and there really is not "winterization" down here so as long as the weather is good then we go! The top doesn't come down usually unless above 70 though otherwise it just looks like I will freeze. PS - I actually do grin when I realize that when I leave my lab, my Box is waiting for me instead of my Tahoe. |
How come you guys won't drive in the rain?
My Goodyear F1's will handle any amount of rain, they're the best yet. In fact driving the car on a miserable day is the only bright spot. Well that and the indoor karting track they opened nearby. You can only spend so much time at they gym and malls. |
Mine is my daily driver, 2miles to work 2 miles back 6 days a week, but those 2miles take 40mins in the morning so i love the stares from kids going to school or the older guy jealous as he drives his Ford whatever to work.
The no.1 advantage is i look forward too driving it home all day. James |
Meh! i drive my boxster everyday everywhere. Why punish myself, i paid for it, im going to drive it and enjoy it. :)

2 miles in 40 minutes in a Porsche is TORTURE! |
When I got my Box six months ago, I thought the excitement might wear off after awhile. No way. It's not my DD, but I can't go for over a week without driving it, and every time I climb in and start it up, a little thrill courses through my body. Just looking at when I go through the garage is a treat.
As God is my witness, I'll never go Boxless again! (apologies to Scarlett) |
I feel sorry for you East Coasters and Mid-Westerners. Here in California I get to drive my Boxster year-round. You guys are absolutley right about the thrill of driving not earing off. I've had my car for over a year now and the excitement of driving it is always there. My work commute is about 70 miles(round trip) so I save the Boxster for evening and weekends. Enjoy!

Mines put away for the winter, along with the 911. It's Grand Cherokee weather every day for the next five months. I'm watching that storm, too, as I'm north of the city by about 30 miles.
|
Mines a DD, I drive it everyday and I agree that the fun never stops. I'm getting my snow tires put on today so I can continue the fun all year.
The longest I have gone without driving it was a few weeks ago when I was out for some surgery. It was the worst two weeks every, not because of the painkillers but because I couldn't drive my Boxster. |

We don't drive in the rain because we don't know how. Last year we only got 3 inches in Los Angeles. That meant 5 or 6 days of precipitation, the othe 359 were just fine. Just not enough practice on slick roads. |
Lol, mines sort of a heres how it goes with my cars.
Mon- Cayenne Tues- wranlger Wen-S600 ( or whenever i want to feel like a business man :) ) Thus-cayenne Fri boxster or wrangler Sat morning till about 5ish boxster after that S600 Sun morning till about 5ish cayenne Lol, thats somtimes how it is :D or i just out my hand in the key collection and drive that. This is one reason my cars dont have high miles :D :D Oh yeah somtimes Gf takes my car, but thankfully she doesn't know how to drive Stick :D |

I'm a self-employed guy, my office is right here in my home. Once you guys are off the roads in your offices and cubes, I tear it up late morning and afternoon. She gets tucked away at rush hour :)
