Sometimes it Beeps.... Sometimes it doesn't

Most of the time when I lock my 987 with the remote key, the lights flash twice and that's it. Everything's locked, life is good.

But every now than then, when I lock it with the remote, in addition to the lights flashing, the horn will also beep once.

Does anyone know why the horn would beep? Personally, I prefer it to beep, but don't know why it beeps intermittently.

The beep indicates that one of the protected areas is not secure when you are locking it.

probably the center console.

Pad is correct, and 99% of the time, the culprit is the storage bin between the seats. The bin is protected by the alarm. Usually, you just pop the bin open, then shut it again, and the alarm will then be happy. If the alarm still beeps, check to be sure that the front and rear trunks are shut and latched.

A single beep can mean that you disabled the interior motion sensor while locking. If you press your lock button once, the interior motion sensor activates, no beep. If you hit your lock button twice (quickly) a single beep will let you know that you've locked the car AND have disabled the interior motion sensor. This can also be setup in the door lock with your key (turn the key twice quickly while locking)

The interior motion sensor automatically disables when the roof is down, a "red clip" can be purchased off of eBay to clip the upper roof latch allowing for interior monitoring without the need to fully engage the top.

Thanks everyone, it was my glove box. Forgot to shut it, Duh!

I learned something new though!

Hi Tboyer, this might be true for the 986 but the 987 does not work like that.

Good post! Was not aware of that!

Perfect explanation thanks.

I'm a newbie 986 owner and that hasn't happened before now. Checked the bonnet and boot, but didn't know the alarm covers the glovebox and console as well. Couldn't find anything in the manual about it either (certainly not under locking).

Thanks.

PIWIS tells you all the causes of beeps. Probably PST2. Mine was always the armrest lid.

I took my centre console apart to put in the short shifter and then when I put it back I did not know where the console switch went.. I put it back without the switch in place as I knew I would be changing the centre console but now I dont think I will
Does anyone have an image of the centre console switch in place? if so that would be a great help
Although I kinda like having the car beep because I have left the car open a few nights as the central locking does not always work first time

Dumb question perhaps....what's a PIWIS?

My 986 has times when it beeps at me and times when it doesn't...I put it down to the fact that the roof is not working properly.

Ricey -

did you ever get an answer or image of the centre console? my mechanic installed a short shifter and ever since then my 911 beeps upon locking him. sounds like the same problem and i'd like to solve it, because it's driving me crazy!
