Ran into a VW GOLF R32 this morning...

I must say that I was quite surprised with the performance of that car vs. my Box S. I know that VW has some quite impressive after-market and turbo options including chip upgrades that really can pack a serious sleeper punch. It had no trouble spinning tires, keeping up or with acceleration for the most part. The R32 edition really seemed like one heck of a performance beast....

Anyone ever ran across a modded VW? Looks crazy boxy and all, but one heck of a sleeper.

The R32 has a pretty sweet exhaust note too. We have one that comes out to our local atox each month.

I've seen a few of them. They might be able to get the HP for a few $$$,
but not the handling.

Ah yes, the R32. I got to drive one this October. That car is a contender! Not so much in the looks department, but that's never been Volkswagen's strong suit.

That car can handle. Also, I hate it when people use the term "wicked" as an adverb, but in all honesty, the DSG shifting on that car is WICKED FAST. And wow, the exhaust note is surprising! Here's a brief video of a couple sound bites I threw together from this Fall.

Cool little car, but for the price... Naa.

There was a guy recently on Ebay selling a GTI that he claimed he was shreding 911 turbos with. Sounded like a bunch of crap. Not bad cars though.

I've never run up against an R32 on the street, but there was one at a local auto-x last year and he was posting some impressive times. Those are very capable little cars. On a side note I bumped into a WS6 trans am the other day on the street. He wasn't ready so I jumped out about 8-10 cars ahead but he reeled me in pretty fast after 100mph.

Even more depressing, a friend sent me a link to the Nissan GTR which claims to have a faster ring time that a 911TT. It is ugly though if you ask me.

when we were at the autoX, there was a guy there w a blue one, man that thing was fast, we were all amazed at the speeds he was carrying trough the corners.
definitely mad props to VW.
then again, one of my fav cars out there is a MK1 GTI :)

DJ, NickCats and I consistently ran into a heavily modded R32 and that thing was crazy fast! I think he mentioned he was pushing 350 HP! He was fast but it was pretty obvious he was still learning how to drive it. I gurantee that when he gets better he will be extremely competitive if not kickin' everyone's butt...
