new shoes

My 98 is in storage for the winter and now it is time to research and buy new tires for the spring. I have the Porshce official brouchure but I wonder if I have to stick with their recommendations. I have 17 inch wheels. If I follow the brouchure I am limited to Bridgestone, Conti, Pirelli or Michelin. I know they are good but they don't have the meanest looking tread patterns out there any suggestions?

any 17 in tires will do, but depends on the performance you're looking for.

All tires are compromises.

No tire is absolutely best in all circumstances.

So first begin by defining what characteristics are the most important to you in your driving situation. Consumer Reports November 07 issue had a review of both all season and ultra-high performance tires. Some of their results are posted at the end of this .

Cool looking tread may be the opposite of well performing tire (example, Yoko ES100s look cool are noisy as heck).

I use Michelin Ribs on my 17s. Have had Pirelli and Yokohamas. Not even close which was best for me.

My personal favorite is the Pirelli PZero System Asimmetrico N3 Max Performance Summer. I'm on my second set and the tread life has been decent for this type of tire. I got 14,000 miles out of my first set. I probably could have gone another 2,000 on them but I wanted a fresh set for spring.
