Blackstone Labs

On the recommendation of other fourm members I have been sending in an oil sample to Blackstone labs when I change the oil. I normally change the oil at 5K intervals, this time I went 7.7K before the change. One of the things I like to keep track of is how well the BMC conical, oil-impregnated air-filter is working in keeping stuff out of the engine. Seems it is working well. The lab includes actual values, but also a write-up summary, I included that below to give a sense of the feedback they give car owners:

"ED: Looking good at 65,000 miles. Metals are steady in your engine, and that's a very good sign that no problems are developing. You can expect iron to increase the longer you run the oil, and if you run the next oil fill longer than this (we think you can), iron will go up a little more. But it's still okay. Bearing wear (copper,
lead, tin) is better than average. The oil was in good shape physically, containing no moisture, fuel, or other contaminants. The air and oil filters are working well too (see silicon and insolubles). This Boxster is wearing well"
