Cel P0153

Went to the parts store this morning and purchased a Actron scanner for $50 on sale and plugged in to see why my CEL light went on, and got code P0153. The book that comes with the scanner has a list of codes and it reads:

"P0153 O2 Sensor CKT Slow Response (Bank 2 Sensor 1)"

After doing a search on the forum I guess this means the pre-cat left sensor. I plan on just replacing, I was just curious the details of the "slow response" if anyone has any knowledge...??

Perfectlap, looks like you are getting this for the second time, any words of wisdom?

My understanding is that thsese 100K mile parts sometimes go early. I'm not yet at 50K miles But time is a factor too, my car is on year seven. The CEL code means the sensor is fading.
$170

I had a local mechanic replace the original with a Walker and it didn't cure the CEL. He's the only mechanic in my area that will touch a Pcar for these trivial 5 minute jobs that are quickly done with a lift. All other mechanics look at the car and say no way. I'm going to order the BOSCH and see if that helps.

Because of the age of your car, it probably is the oxygen sensor(s) going. But, it could also be a number of other issues including, bad cat, MAF, or a vacuum leak somewhere after the MAF. Best of luck, I am sure not fond of the CEL's....

Potentially stupid question:

I cleared the code my newly purchased diagnostic tool, if the problem persists wont the CEL continue to stay on?
