Well, one thing those pics did to me is light a fire to upgrade to a short shift kit. I had a BMW z4 for a while and the one thing I liked about it was the short crisp shifts. After seeing the pictures, I want to do it to the boxster.

I figure I can also spray the console while I have it out. My thing is.. What color? The boxster is black. Do I match the exterior paint or go silver??

If you are changing the console and the shift knob, you might want to go the extra mile with the shift kit too. They seem to have decent reviews and the B&M clone on ebay is a decent price.

I would not paint it the same color as the car, because it will be hard to match.
And put a lot of clear coat on it. The painted consoles scratch and chip easily then look bad. My does, because it is the only paint on the car constantly being bombarded.

The console is very easy to change out, I swapped a carbon fiber into mine a few weeks ago and the whole process took about 15 minutes.

Gary,
Do you still have your console and is it in good shape? Mine has some what appears to be "sunscreen" wear and missing paint on it. I think we spoke about this before (been a crazy few weeks!) - I got my pedals installed, but I could use a couple pointers on the console install I am sure...

After reading this I am really considering putting a short shifter in my car.

Djomlas - I think you need to let me drive your car sometime so I can see the difference

I didn't know removing the console was that easy. I have seen the instructions on how to do it, but thought it looked complicated.
How does it compare to removing the insturment cluster in terms of difficulty?

Also, is the short shifter upgrade worth it? I have read it make the shifts notchy, and stiff.
Thanks!

I do still have the console...I have a pretty open weekend.
Saturday or Sunday morning works for me. If you need help installing it. If you don't need help doing the install I am heading to pochatolua this Saturday afternoon for the renaissance festival and we can meet around there for the exchange.
