FIRE ! Do you know why Boxtsers burn ?
I was speaking to a very large insurance company today about burnt Boxsters. They informed me of the number one reason Boxsters burn.
1. The owner smokes with the window down and flicks ashes into the paper air cleaner... NICE. B |
whats the paper air cleaner?
|
The intake is right behind the drivers door. Flick ashes out of the car while it is moving and they get sucked into the PAPER air cleaner element. Bad day. Most "burn victims" you see are burnt across the top of the engine (follows the intake system) and all start on the drivers side.
I'll see if I can find a pic. B |
I, like many other Boxster owners, got the Porsche letter years ago.
A nasty rumor.:D http://home.jps.net/~mjlopez/images/wreck%20fire3.jpg |
The insurance adjusters seem to like it..:D Honestly I have seen 6-7 cars burnt from that side over.

Kind of weird. The air cleaner element in my '99 has a foam side and a paper side, with the foam side to the incoming air stream. Maybe the foam is even more flammable than the paper, for all I know.

I always thought it was an internet hoax until I saw this at a tech session a few years ago. There were butts in the air box.
Last ime I changed my filter I touched a match to the foam and it caught on fire. Same thing with the paper side but it took a bit longer. Fore some reason I expected the filter to be fire resistant. That is why Porsche put a screen in the intake vent in 2003. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...Pants/fire.jpg |
There is a warning in the manual for my '02 about not throwing butts out the window because they may be sucked in the intakes.
I guess thats what you get for being a litter bug  |
