Smarttop / Autotop....

Since I installed the glass rear window top on my 986, and now don't need to do the 'chop', I figure something like the Smarttop or Autotop would be pretty slick.

I've seen the Autotop for about $130, and the Smarttop for $299 (I think I saw it somewhere that was linked here for about $160). As far as I can tell, the Autotop does one touch operation, but you have to do the Pin 18 mod for the speedo bypass... but the Smarttop doesn't need any changes.

Anyone have any links or sources or opinions?

First be sure to check pushrods for power top. If they break while smart top is working possible to break frame. I wouldn't install it on my car

Is there a thread on how you installed the glass? Did you replace the entire top with one that had a glass window? My plastic window is starting to get a little ugly. If you just replaced the plastic with glass how difficult was the process? Did you do it yourself? Tell me! tell me!

Tim, when your pre-03 Boxster's plastic window starts looking like crap, or cracks, you have a couple choices - pay an upholstery shop to remove your top and sew in a new plastic window, or replace the top.

If you replace the top, you can replace it with a top that has a glass window. A couple differences, though. One is that the window is smaller, and the second is just how it attaches to the bows in the top. It's not TOO hard to do yourself. Both Robbins and GAHH make replacement tops with glass windows.
