Temp gauge flashing
I was driving this afternoon and my temp gauge started flashing. My car wasn't at operating temp yet so the car wasn't over heating. Any idea of what could be wrong?

Check for leaks of the cooling system tank and pump. The flashing light indicate low coolant.

your most likely low on coolant

I will check the coolant. I should also add that a min or two after it started to flash i started to smell somethinh burning.
|
Flashing temp light may also indicate a bad radiator fan motor (burning elect. smell??). After checking your coolant level, warm the car up an check to make sure they are all working.

i noticed the same thing over the weekend but only at nite when it was about 45 degrees out and engine temperature needle was under 100. i stoped and restarted the car and flashing light was gone. so far it happened twice and only when engine was cold. no smell of burning.

Check your coolant level. Since the weather changed, my light started blinking as well. I added a cup of distilled water and so far, so good. Appearantly the coolant level sensor is very sensitive. When the engine is cold, the indicator should show 3/4 of the way between the min and max level.

Could mean a trip to the shop for a coolant overflow bottle. Pull up the carpet in the trunk and see if there is any coolant under the styrofoam filler under the mat. Mine is at the shop right now. I bought the cap and coolant bottle from Porsche OEM for 260.00.
Best of luck! |
