New Clutch

After 10 yrs and 97k miles my clutch has gone. I was going to upgrade to a Racing clutch and a lighter flywheel but after speaking to many mechanics as well as a board member I have decided to replace the clutch with a o.e.m sachs clutch. I got the clutch for 281 shipped to me which is a kit and I am having the flyweel resurafced as we speak. The mechanic who is doing the work is charging me 475.00 to do the job which I think is great consider most guys won't even touch a porsche for less then 900.00. Also most mechanics want to buy order the parts and not have you get them which is also a plus with this mechanic. I welcome any questions or comments on what I have posted. I know it is not exciting the o.e.m clutch but i am the third owner of this car and really never got to drive it when the clutch was brand new which why i am alittle excited that I am getting the chance to replace the clutch . 97k on the orginal clutch is pretty good i think but who knows

I think you made a good choice and got a good price on the clutch and work. If you made it to 97K with one clutch, an OME unit should do you fine. My clutch went out at less than 50K. I think that was due to the two previous owners and me trying to discover the range of possibilities of the car. I take pretty good care of the new clutch, as it needs to last.

As I've said in previous posts, I couldn't be happier with my Aasco light flywheel and Sachs sport clutch.

Yea, but for the cost of doing the light flywheel and a sports clutch it was alittle out of my rage considering that i have 4 other cars and this is more my "toy". so for the cost and the fact that I am going to have it back to almost brand is good enough for my . Pat .. not knocking you choice just not something i want to drop 2k grand into when i want to still do a new top with the glass window .

Well, I tried to drive the car to the mechanic after i thought the clutch was just slipping and i could make it . Well to say the least it is died did not make it at all which is ok cause my friend has a flatbed . I might have confused some people about the flywheel being resurfaced. I bought a low mileage used flywheel from Oklahoma foreign for 200 which I figured was a good price considering a new one is 700.00. The mechanic got the flyhweel and said it was in really good shape and that was very minor wear on it and it would be a easy resurfacing. I do want to ask when you did the new clutch was there much a difference in shifting or any improvement.

Which shop replaced your clutch? I'm at 44k. I hope my clutch will last a while longer, but I like to have recommendations covering all the potential problems.

I had Autothority Pitstop http://www.autothority.com/ in Alexanderia, VA do the clutch install because they had done much of the performance mods on my car. I also like a shop in Richmond, http://www.lufteknic.com/ called Lufteknic, good prices and good work they did my coilover suspension setup.

I've been using Luftechnic too. Nice people and they seem very knowledgeable. They are also a little closer to me than Alexandria. I might check out Autothority the next time I'm up in the DC area.
