Locking Beep - Open Hood

I just got in my car and drove ten minutes to the store. When I got there and locked my car it beeped, I looked back and my hood was not fully closed. I never lock my car in the garage, and I had forgotten to give the hood the extra push to close it before I left the house.
Is there a way to have my car warn me when I start it, if anything like the hood or trunk are open?
I feel pretty stupid about this, at least I didn't get on the freeway.
Thanks!

Rick,

I believe there is a luggage compartment lid warning light ( o ) between the retractable spoiler warning light ( n ) and the convertible top indicator light ( p ).

This is according to the owners manual for the 2000 MY. I also have a 1999, but I believe the instrument cluster is the same.

You might want to check this to make sure it works when you have a chance.

Hope this helps...

Nick

Not sure about the warning lights, but I'd imagine you'd get a pretty noticeable whistle or some fluttering of the hood above 40mph if not closed completely (whistle same as if hood out of alignment w/ front bumper cover).

As for the freeway........thus I'm this is one of the reasons why you also have to move the manual latch lever when opening the hood. Fed govt stds mandated this added safety latch - before my time so not sure when but I'm guessing the 50's. It's there to prevent hoods from flying open at speed if either not closed completely or accidentally being released while in motion.

That is what got me, I was going 50mph, but I thought the whistle was from some strong winds on my RTS. Thanks, I'll check the warning light.

Unfortunately, this doesn't always happen. I drove from my house to Philly with the front trunk popped (2.5 hours, and much of it highway @ 70MPH+). No warning light, no whistling. Fortunately, nothing happened – a guy in a cement mixer flagged me down, but this wasn’t until I was within about 100 meters of my destination.

At other times, I have had a “trunk open” warning appear on the dot matrix display, but for some reason, it didn’t trigger this time.

The luggage compartment(s) warning light did not start until 2001 when the 3 button remote came out.

Page 68 above that shows the warning light I believe is from a 2002 owners manual. The same diagram is show on page 66 of the 2001 owners manual.

You can also tell it is not from a 2000 owners manual because it is a diagram of the new style cluster that started in 2001.

Thanks, Tool Pants ! You are correct - I just looked at page 236 and it lists hp as 225 base / 258 S which would make it 2003 / 2004.

I downloaded the owner's manual from RennTech. You might want to let Loren know it is improperly labeled...

You are also correct.

I just looked at the "2000" manual on renntech and it is not for a 2000.

It has PSM, the glovebox, 3 button remote, glass top, cupholders that swing out. And other stuff that did not exist for model year 2000.

Well, Loren is a 996 owner after all....

He has deleted it as a 2000 owners manual. Some guy scanned it a few years ago and said it was for a 2000.

I have most of the 986 manuals in paper form.

So the '99 Boxster don't have the sensor on the front latch to alert you the hood is open.
So unless you hear the whistling there is no way to know?
If there a way to add the sensor to the hood latch to alert you if it is open?
Thanks!
