What do you guys think about this.. Something that can be handle by me ? The person selling the kits says it is about a 3-4 out of 1-10 scale .. what do you think?

They don't even show the finished product in the eBay ad, Just the clear plastic OEM window. So, are they saying that you are going to sew in a new tinted piece of plastic? I don't think so.

If I would rate it. it's probably 3- 4 ,1 being the easiest. Other guys sell their clear for $90, $115 for the tinted. Best I can do for u is $75(clear) & $90 ( tinted). Thanks.

That's all well & good, but do you know how to sew? Sew well?? What happens between the two layers of plastic film? What about dirt...condensation. Any distortion? Where are you going to stand while sewing? Are you a contortionist?

If you want tinted windows, buy a Limo. :)

your missing the point.. I am not just talking about the tinted one. I need to replace my clear back window cause it is cracked as well as starting to rip at the edges. So i was trying to see if this is a good alternative . The roof is about 2 yrs old and is in perfect condition as far the fabric goes. I was saying is this something that you think could easily be done. I mean yes.. i sewed and yes I sewed pretty good. i been reading on renntech.org that removing the convertible top is not that crazy and it takes like 20 mins to remove it. So I can sew it with out putting my body in awkard positions. There is a write up on removing the top and also a writeup from the person who selling these kits of tinted/clear rear windows

OK, but I think that guy's product needs to have an existing window to sew onto. According to that guy's eBay ad, he has not sold any, and what he has sold is a key chain and a flashlight.

I don't see "1,000's" of review on Renntech...but maybe I am missing something.

To repair your weathered and torn window, a top replacement is best, but expensive. You might even be able to upgrade to the glass.

Does it look possible?.. Is it something you would do ? I did my own brakes .. my window regulator and motor I hooked up my navaigation.. installed my seats and also installed HID lights in my car... So i would say it's very possible I am just try to find out if anyone else attempted it

I think you should go for it! Hey, if it turns out poorly or the quality of the plastic isn't good, you're not out much except time trying to sew it in.

In a worst case scenario, you buy a new top for the car or take it to a trim shop and have them sew in a new window.

For that price I would get the new one with rear glass for like 700 and get it installed .

yeah i would go for it. taking the top off w the frame is a 10 minute deal lloks like, so you can take it in the house and do it in a warm room.

The plastic must have a stamp that says AS6 in order to pass inspection. At least in New Jersey that is.

That sounds like a good idea to me. I looked into a number of options when my plastic window cracked. I decided there was still life in the canvas, so I had a plastic window sewed in. As I understand it, it is pretty fussy to take the top off and put it back on correctly without breaking some of the parts involved. I forget, but it was over 600.00 to have a new plastic window put in and almost all of that was labor. Good luck and let us know what you decide to do.

New tops with glass window on Ebay at the moment for $625. Install yourself with instructions found on this site. Also new tops with green tinted plastic window for under $400. Better than your $525.00 for just the plastic then sewing it in yourself.

I'm going down this path at the moment as my plastic window self destructed in the last 2 days. From zero cracks to more than 5 this weekend, one of which is about 6 inches long.

Anyone have a comment on the glass windows? Visibilty, etc? I'm looking at getting a tinted plastic one sewn in (have access to professional [military] seamstress) or the glass option.

I say go for it!
I have talked to a few people who have fixed there tops this way, and it seems to be just fine. Just think of the money ($400+) you will save. You can always take the entire top off, if you want to as well.

Rear window stitching. Do I need glue too?
 

about 4" of stitching has broken! Nice new air vent.

I am OK with getting UV thread to re-stitch,

but how about water-tighting? Do I need to glue before stitching?

Or apply something after the re-stitch done?
