Anyone had a rear main seal replaced ?
If you have had a clutch job done... typically they will do it then. I'm wondering if this is slowly becoming a problem. Do to the last main bearing being so far forward in the crank "holder" compared to the mounting surface for the flywheel (the chain drive is on the end of the crank for one of the cylinder banks unlike a air cooled Porsche engine where both cams are driven from the front of the engine) This leaves the 39lbs of flywheel/pressure plate/clutch disc HANGING off the end of the crank WAY away from the last main bearing.

This is one of the theories. But a tiptronic does not have all that weight and they leak as well.

HUm.. my thoughts on the TIP:
It has more wieght. Spinning fluid in a torque converter would end up weighing more. 6 oz of oil on a connecting rod at 8k RPM weighs something like 80lbs. I forget the exact math.. but fluid being spun in a reciprocating or rotating fashion adds weight. Interesting. I'll measure the weight of a TIP torque converter. B |
