color match

Its been a couple months now that I have put on my gemballa front bumper and aero sides, and just recently i got the entire front clear bra. But I realized that my newly painted parts dont exactly match my car. My painted items are a tad lighter than the rest of the car. You cant tell in pictures or in person unless you stare for a bit. when i gave them the things to paint they got my color code for speed yellow and a part of my car ( my passenger side vent) to match it with.

anyone else have similar experiences with matching? I was told that plastic and metal will have slightly different shades when painted. the body shop at the time said that there were 2 variations of speed yellow and they used the dirtier kind.

Absolutely yes, paints will look different depending on the substrate. The difference should be / is noticeable to a trained/staring eye but usually not so to casual observer. In my experience (years ago worked in a body shop), one of the best ways to see if a car has been painted is to look at it under both natural sunlight but more importantly under florescent lights. This is also the reason why when you have body work done on cars, the shops will blend the repainted area into an adjacent panel to help hide the re-work - or make it less obvious.

Take a close look at your rear bumper vs the paint on the fenders and I'm sure you'll see a difference there too. If it's much more noticeable on the front than rear, you might want to either have them blend it into the fenders/hood or have them re-do.

its noticiable to me. it seems like the car is deeper yellow but the bumper is slightly lighter. they wont blend it cuz i gave them a hard time with this project, and my clear bra is on the fenders and hood. I will just have to live with it.
