Power steering question Just bought a 99 Boxster and finally exposed the engine compartment. When I checked the power steering fluid level, it does not even register on the dip stick. I looked into the reservoir and cannot see any fluid at all. The car seems a bit hard to steer, but I thought that was just normal. Could I be driving it without any power steering assist and not even know it?? I would think I would hear some bad sounds or something?? I will pick up some of the Pentosin fluid as soon as I can, but any advise would be appreciated  |

If you weren't getting any power assist, you'd definitely know it. Having never opened the engine compartment or checked out the PS system yet, I can't really say how it should look, but at the very least I'd bring the fluid up to the proper level. |

Yup. Add fluid to the correct level and check it in a month or so just to make sure you don't have a leak. Chances are it's just a little low. |

Mine was low when my mechanic checked it earlier this year. This is a great reminder for me to check it again and add some or get the system checked for leaks! |

Hello. I had a similar problem on my 97 that was cause by a $2 O'ring between the top filling tank and the bottom return line tank. There is 2 O'ring in this section, and the green one was crack. check for pentosin leak often. you don't want to replace the pump $$$. |

Thanks. Topped it off with about 10 oz of fluid, so it was pretty low. All is well... |
