Weather?

How many of you have considered weather as factor when buying your Boxster?

I know I shouldn't buy a Box from Louisiana or Florida. Are there any other places I should stay away from when searching for my Boxster?

Are Washington & Texas o.k. to buy a car from?

Is snow and that stuff really that bad for a car?

It's not the snow that's an issue...it's the salt! But, many P-car owners store the car during the winter.

I'd buy one, from cold-weather States, if store properly.

What do you mean by storing properly?

If it's left in the garage during the winter is that o.k.?

Blink, here is one of the all-time-best posts regarding Winter Storage:

I consider these (most of them) to be storing properly.

Whoa! That's like basically making your car a mummy.

Thanks for the link.

The entire body of the Boxster is galvanized and has a ten year rust free guarantee from Porsche. So it shouldn't matter, I got mine in a snow state, and I look forward to driving it in the snow all year. :D

i think the only thing you need to worry about buying car from texas or florida is watch out for the cars that have been damaged or flooded in... dont' think its bad buying a car from the snowy states.... mine came from philly....

Be aware that some states are less striingent when it comes to damaged/repaired cars or flood cars. Texas comes to mind. Also be aware of "Katrina" cars.. they are still out there.

I would be less concerned about climate of the cars existance than how it was used and maintained. A known history and "feel" of the seller are more important than if the car came from Boston, Seattle or San Diego.

This is what I'm concerned about.....look at the lug nuts and rotor hats.

We have seen this problem with the wheel bolts. So, it's not uncommon. As for the rotor hats, possibly they are aftermarket, and they do rust vs. OEM's.

Both can be primed and painted as a DIY project.

Being from Canada, we see a big difference in resale value between winter driven and winter stored cars. This is true mainly for sports cars (summer cars). The resale value simply hits a minimum value and never drops below it. So if you buy around that value, you can resell it for basically the same price a few years down the road. For base model boxsters that value is around 20K$(CAN$), you won't find many accident free base model boxsters that have been stored for below that value in Canada.
