Newbie question for brakes

Hi , not sure if i read this right on these forums ,but when your brakes,rotors are getting low or need replacement a warning light shows on dashboard?That would be prety nice if true. thx.

It is pretty nice as well as true....you can save yourself the money of actually burning thru the sensor by changing the pads before the light comes on....but even if you wait till the light comes on I think the new sensor is like $15 an axle if you do it yourself so no biggy. However this sensor only works for the brake pads not for the rotors....to check yourself you would have to get some calipers and measure them to make sure they`re in spec. However rule of thumb from what I`ve heard is every two pad changes you need to replace the rotors as well.

I think the sensors are about $12 apiece, and you need 2 per wheel. It would save you a little coin to replace your pads early!

And there is no sensor for the rotor thickness. I replaced all of my pads at ~40k miles (when I got the car) and could tell there is wear on the rotors. When I get to about 80K, I'm going to check the pads, and if they're getting close to worn, I will get all new rotors and pads and swap them all at once.
