Maybe if you buy some Michelin Pilot sport 2's you wouldnt be burning rubber all the time. And expensive lesson it would be....

(Get the PS2's)

mikefocke 09-30-2007 03:19 PM

How can you answer the question

when there must be 10 characteristics of a tire and you don't tell us which are important to you.

Consumer Reports has a summer Ultra High Performance Tires review this issue (November). All Seasons too.

cvhs18472 09-30-2007 04:08 PM

I am a fairly agressive driver. I also went through trying to pick out my first set of tires. I ended up with Kumho's and have been more than satisfied. 8K on the rears and they are about half way; fronts look almost new and drivability over the P Zero Rosso's , which were on when I got it , was not very different. For me the difference was $540.00 verses $1160.

blkboxster 09-30-2007 04:28 PM

Well there only for the rear :D My fronts are fine, i have pirreli or however you spell it, i drive normally, sometimes very hard, But i think im going for these

***Just bought them*****

boggtown 09-30-2007 04:33 PM

Your gonna mix and match brands? I only condone that for drifters who only use the rears for a day. But daily driving with an added variable for disaster. Blink randomly spun out with 4 same tires, i dont even wanna think what would have happened if he had mixed and matched.

blkboxster 09-30-2007 04:49 PM

OR, i can get a set of 4 of these

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Sumitomo&tireModel=HTR+Z+II&veh icleSearch=false&partnum=54WR7HTRZ2&fromCompare1=y es&place=1 feed back please

I guess I am a little confused with this thread. :D You started off wanting recommendations of 2 tires, then get disappointed that people aren't jumping in to offer their advice, then bring up another 2 different tires, then state you already bought them, then say it is just for the rear tires, then yet again you ask for more recommendations?

You never really said what your use were for the tires, nor the amount of tread left....cannot imagine much tread left with your G-Tech 0-60 clutch popping race days......lol.....but if I had my choice (considering all of your pricey toys and apparent excess of disposible income) I wouldn't go cheap. Just get a complete matched set of Pilots or PZeros or even Yoko ADVANs...

All the best...

blkboxster 09-30-2007 05:02 PM

Lol yeah, well im a cheap man lol, so i went with some Sumitomo HTR Z II

Don't be cheap. You might not get a 2nd chance. Your parents and other motorist hope you buy good tires.

$680 with the Goodyear cash card offer this month.

Probably the absolute best tire in the rain I have ever had. And equal to anything from Michelin or Bridgestone in the dry and you'll save a couple hundred.

mikefocke 10-01-2007 08:04 AM

I understand you all want to save $

and that buying tires is tough because there is so little good information out there.

The Sumitomo HTR + tires is mediocre in all 5 wet and dry performance categories but excellent and very good on snow and ice. It wears very quickly. On a 100 point scale, the difference was 22 points.

The Goodyear rates as very good across the board, not as good as the Michelin PS2 in wet and dry braking (very good versus excellent) and worse in rolling resistance (mileage). On a 100 point scale, the difference was 12 points.

Do you have a link for that Consumer Report opinion?

They rated car waxes recently and their results made me leary of how they interpreted the test data.

But it looks like they want you to pay for the full report. The Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 was one of their recommended picks for a summer tire, but it ranked fairly far down the list.

I think the problem with their ratings on waxes is that they value durability and low effort over ultimate shine.

Pat1USMC 10-01-2007 04:51 PM

Is there any way you can copy and paste the results into a thread? I am about to buy tires as well and the F1s were on the top of my list.

I can't get my scanner software to work at home. I'll scan it at work tomorrow.

I was concerned to see the PZero Rosso at the bottom of the barrel with regard to overall ranking. Any ideas on this and why this tire (for its relatively high price) is not a good tire? My P-shop told me that I could either get 2 rear PZeros put on or get an entire set of the Kumho SPTs for the same price. He says he uses SPTs on his wife's, son's and his own personal P-cars. I decided (since the transport driver was paying) to just get the matching brand-new PZero rears, but I probably definately change to the SPTs when it is time to retread.

If the fronts weren't brand new, I would have just gone with the SPTs and been done with it. Oh well, live and learn.

Any ideas on the performance issues with the Rosso's? Could this have been application, or vehicle specific? I don't know what size nor type of vehicle that was used in the testing. Not that I would think that variable would be too indicative of performance results, but just curious as to the variety in builds and tendencies for different tread sizes within the same "family" of tires.

Perfectlap 10-03-2007 09:36 AM

I think we would need to see a more exact way of showing the results of the different tests. Car & Driver, Road & Track, etc. have a very technical breakdown, including Autocross times in wet and dry conditions, braking distances, etc.
THese red and black doughnuts make me wonder...

Hi,

I have Pirelli PZero rosso all round.

Grip is amazing. I have never had so much confidence as with these when cornering hard (once warmed up!!).

Got about 20,000k's with my last set, so I am happy.

Also have a friend who has a tyre shop which helped as they were pretty expensive at normal pricing!!

Cheers.

Well after only putting a handful of miles on my new Rosso's, obviously they are still pretty slick, so when they warm up and settle in....but to honest with you right now, I am pleased with the grip and the performance....they seem ROCK SOLID.
