Alternator
Hi guys,
I'm living in Japan, and just recently my alternator is starting to lose power. I took it to my usual porsche specialist, and they said it's going to cost $1500, yup 1,500 for them to rebuild it. Is that way too expensive? How much should it cost for them to take it out, rebuild it and put it back in? Thanks for any advice |
If you know, is the problem with the regulator?
|
Hmmm
I'm not sure. But, the alternator is only putting out 12 volts, and it should be putting out 13.

If it turns out to be the regulator then here is some reading.

Also
They say it's going to take them about 3 weeks.

Ask the shop about for Labor cost only. Order your Alternator and have it shipped from North America(Vertex Auto, Pelican Parts, Sunset Porsche, etc...). In the U.S., you can have an Alternator remanufactured from most Auto electrical shops around $60-300( of course, depending on the make and model of the vehicle).
Most shops wont give you a warranty on the work since you bought the part though. Good Luck! |
Thanks for the advice, you guys are quick!!
I've got a 1997 silver boxster. It's in real good condition apart from the alternator. It has a custom made rear spoiler, and a sports exhaust upgrade; it's way too loud, but sounds good. It's done 50,000 km. That's about 30 000 miles. How much do you think it's worth?
