Texas area guys! Wurstfest!

A buddy of mine (on the old 911 side of my p-car hobby) is going to put together an informal drive southwest of Austin, ending up in New Braunfels on Saturday November 10th.

Jamie is known for finding the AWESOME roads around Austin, and NOT driving slowly on them!

So if any of y'all want to come on down for a great fun drive, and Wurstfest, I'll post details as we get closer to the event. I guarantee the drive will be a blast! I missed it last year, and I regret it, but I had an excuse - my 911 was (and still is) not really in prime driving condition. Now that I have the Boxster, I have no excuses!

RandallNeighbour 09-10-2007 06:14 PM

I think I can make it! Wahoo!

timothy 09-10-2007 06:25 PM

That sounds terrific. Keep us posted.

porschedude 09-11-2007 06:22 AM

I can't make it on Nov 10th but I am curious about the route to New Braunfels. I find RR1431 really awesome besides RR 2222. Anyway, please keep us posted.

porsche986spyder 09-11-2007 06:29 AM

That's kind of far away for me, but with enough notice in advance. I may be able to go to this one. I'm in the Dallas/Addison area. Keep us posted.

We'll be on much better roads than 1431 or 2222!

I'll update as soon as we set up a meeting place. It will be that Saturday morning, probably around 8am somewhere in South Austin.

I'll also be installing a new top on my Boxster sometime in the next month or so, if anyone wants to see how it's done. (I also had an idea last night... if someone has a video camera and is good at editing, we could make a how-to video!)

If it's anything like what we had this last weekend, you don't want to let a three hour drive to Austin stand in the way.

porschedude 09-11-2007 07:50 AM

FrayAdjacent,

I am interested to come check it out when you replace your top. Please PM me when you do so. Thanks!

Absolutely. Anyone who's interested in the top, or in Wurstfest, email me when you get a chance: mqjaustin at yahoo.

It's going to be a FUN drive, I guarantee!

chig 09-11-2007 08:32 AM

Hi there,

My name is Brian and I'm new to the site. I just purchased a 03' boxster that looks a lot like "timothy" car...triple black with 18' carrera rims...though it's not a boxster s. I live in the Austin area and I'm interested in learning how to replace the convertible. top. Also, I'm always up for meeting new boxster owners in the area. Here's a pic of the new purchase. I'm glad to find a site dedicated to the boxster.

FrayAdjacent 09-11-2007 09:02 AM

Chig, nice car! Those are the wheels I wish I had! Someday I'll get a set.

Send me an email, and I'll let you know when I'm going to replace the top.

porschedude 09-11-2007 09:15 AM

Brian, nice triple black car. welcome to the forum. send me a private message. we can go tear up the road some time or detail our cars.

RandallNeighbour 10-24-2007 02:06 PM

I need details on when and where for Wurstfest Porsche Car driving in Austin!!!!

It's just a few weeks away, right?

FrayAdjacent 10-24-2007 04:34 PM

Randall, thanks for bringing this up. I haven't received the details on the meet and drive, but it is still on!

My buddy that is kinda setting this up (this is not an 'official event') hasn't announced the meeting time and place.

I'll post here when I hear! I think it will be a fun event!

RandallNeighbour 10-31-2007 11:10 AM

Hey, I really need to know this event is happening and the times of the event as well.

The wife is wanting to know when we can go to dinner with friends in Austin, etc.

Fray, can you light a fire under your buddies' butt to get the details in order?

I need to know when and where we'll meet (an address and time would be great) and when we'll be wrapped up for the day.

Thanks!

RandallNeighbour 10-31-2007 11:25 AM

Chig, we must get together in a couple of weeks' time for Wurstfest and get a shot of our cars next to one another. I have the same color and same rims as you.

So very cool, my new friend!

chig 10-31-2007 12:02 PM

Hey guys,

I might be in town for Wurstfest. I have a few friends heading to NB for the event. I'll have my blackberry on me this weekend me...so please email me at bkchig@hotmail.com if you guys head out and meet up. I would be nice to meet fellow Boxster drivers.

FrayAdjacent 10-31-2007 12:57 PM

Guys, I'm going to end up missing this... I'm taking the opportunity to go out of state to visit a friend before I start my new job (I got laid off a few weeks ago).

I WILL post here about the event. My friend Jamie should have the plan (times/places) by this weekend)

Sounds like fun! Count me in.

TimAustinW 11-05-2007 08:39 AM

so what exactly is WurstFest? Is that like some kind of a sausage fest?

Something like that. A lot of areas of Texas were settled by German immigrants, so there are a lot of German traditional celebrations. Wurstfest is one of them... in 'New Braunfels'... a German named town. Go figure! ;)

I won't be able to make it, since I'm going to Virginia... I'm still waiting on the details from my buddy here who is getting it together. The drive is not an OFFICIAL event.

I'll post here as soon as I know what the plan is, so you guys will know!

RandallNeighbour 11-05-2007 10:14 AM

Fray, it's the week of the event and I really need to know when and where and who and all that stuff.

I am the kind of guy who likes to have things planned out a couple days in advance at least. Since I'm coming from Houston, I won't be able to get email late Friday night or check this web site... call your buddy and tell him to get on the stick and post something here sooner than later.

FrayAdjacent 11-05-2007 11:34 AM

Randall, I just sent Jamie an email asking if he's close to having a plan. I definitely want to get it to you guys here... because you'll have a BLAST!

I think they are planning on stopping out at a guy's shop in Wimberley as part of the drive. Last time we went out there (early last year) he had an original ~73 RS stripped down to the tub that he was restoring. I'm not sure what he has now, but he has a few Porsche projects going on usually.

FrayAdjacent 11-07-2007 06:35 AM

Here's the mostly tentative plan from my friend Jamie:

Looks like the weather will be great for a Hill Country Drive this weekend. My calender is cleared for many miles. I am sending this message only to those who responded to go for the drive.

Meeting place: We will meet at 8AM at the Starbucks at the corner of HWY 71/290 and Brodie lane in South Austin. The address is:

Starbucks, 5400 Brodie Ln Sunset Valley, TX 78745
A map can be found here.

http://maps.yahoo.com/py/maps2.py?Pyt=Typ&name=Starbucks&desc=(512)+891-9173&addr=5400+Brodie+Ln+%23+930&csz=Sunset+Valley +TX

I plan to leave for the drive at 9am sharp. Any later and we risk traffic on the backroads getting out of town. This gives people an hour to gas up, fuel up with coffee and have lots of photos and B.S. sharing. They have muffins and such at Starbucks and there will be other breakfast options close by.

Our planned route has two options. Both have a route that heads out to Boerne, TX and returns on the South side of Canyon lake. This will follow the Guadalupe river into New Braunfels to the WurstFest. We will arrive at WurstFest around 1pm and have lunch there.

Here is the question... How many would rather skip the WurstFest and continue from Boerne down through the Bandera Region for what many claim to be the best roads in TX. This route would take most of the day to complete making us skip WurstFest. This means we would find a lunch option on the road. I will be trying out some new roads and the route could take longer than expected. We could meet for a beer/dinner on our return to Austin for more Bench Racing.

Think about the option for a full day of driving. We can make the decision in the morning before leaving.

I will try to have a limited number of que sheets available for each route. this will help if our group gets too big. Right now it is much smaller than I have had in the past and it should be no problem to keep everyone together. btw, if anyone has FRS 2-way radios please bring them. It will help to keep the lead car in touch with the follow cars.

If you're going to go, and want to voice an opinion on the route, email Jamie at
jamie DOT novak AT hotmail DOT com

Just mention that you're from the 986 forum, and that Matt sent you over! Have a good time and be safe!!

RandallNeighbour 11-07-2007 07:12 AM

Whew!

I was just wondering whether this was gonna happen at all... we'd already made plans to drive to Austin and stay with my wife's friend.

Thanks, Fray, and see you at Starbucks!

I won't be there... I'll be in Virginia! But if I can, I'll have Starbucks that morning, and wish I were driving my Boxster! ;)

RandallNeighbour 11-11-2007 04:26 PM

Had fun this weekend! Oddly enough, I was the oldest guy there with the youngest Porsche. Totally opposite than normal at these kinds of rallies.

It was nice to have as much HP and torque as all the other cars, and more in the case of one or two of the cars.

There were five of us total. I was the only boxster. All the others were older 911's.

NickCats 11-12-2007 06:28 AM

Hey Randall,

Any pictures ?

Nick

RandallNeighbour 11-12-2007 07:54 AM

Nope. Forgot the camera.

It was an OK day... not nearly as much fun as the time we had on the TOD trip!

I think if I had it to do all over again I'd probably not do it. I was really hoping some of the other forum members would have shown up, and I was the only one. :(

chig 11-12-2007 10:08 AM

Hey guys,

I wish I would have made it since I live in Austin. Unfortunately, I was in San Jose, CA this pass week and weekend.
