New Coolant Cap

F.Y.I. there is a new coolant cap.

I ordered a updated coolant cap for my Pops 996. The package that it came had 996.106.447.01 listed on it,the part itself says 996.106.477.02 . Even the invoice that it came in says 996.106.447.01,weird. I will take pictures of the one ending in .01(from my Boxster) and the one ending in .02

List $18.32,Net $11.80 from Sunset.

just updated mine aswell and it was a .02 !

I went from a .00 and updated just 'be on the safe side on that area' - i recently had a cracked compression tank.

Price was 18$ from a porsche dealer.

Can you post another picture of the package, and of the opposite side of both caps side-by-side.

@ TP,

My Pops just got done driving the car 996 w/ the new cap and I get the damn thing off to get a side-by-side pic. I just took a pic of the cap and package it came in,like I said the invoice had the part no. ending in .01 as well. Let me know if you need more pics.

Sure looks like Porsche has come out with yet another cap.

There has been talk about a black cap so about a month ago I had the parts guy pull one. What he gave me was the "usual" blue cap in a bag with the .01 part number on the bag. I did not think to look at the part number on the cap itself. He also ran it throught the computer and .01 was the current part number. I even looked at a new 997 in the showroom and it had a .01.

The more I think about it the black cap must be aftermarket.

The date on the plastic bag is June 15, 2007, for whatever that is worth. Visually I cannot see a difference between the .01 and .02 caps. There is a visual difference between the .00 and .01 caps.

It is a plot by Porsche to sell caps to pay for it's 31% share of VW because now everyone is going to want the .02 cap....

But then my January 1997 had a VW cap, with a VW part number on it, and with VW/Audi logos.

Hi,

Yea, great, but it still won't keep your Coolant Recovery Tank from cracking or otherwise degrading! When they come up with that solution, I'm there!...

Happy Motoring!,,, Jim'99

I called Sunset Imports and asked them about the coolant cap ending in .02 . They said for whatever reason it was discontinued......weird. They also had on more ending in .02 that was in a .01 package.

Ordered mine from Sunset 2 weeks ago, blue cap ending in .02.

Same parts guy pulled me another cap today. This time I looked at the part number on the cap.

.01 on the bag.

Tool Pants 09-21-2007 02:15 PM

.02 on the cap - did not want to take it out of the plastic bag since I was not buying it.

Showed it to a mechanic friend and he do not know there was yet another cap. We looked at it and could not detremine what changed. Maybe the valve inside.

Hi, I still have the cap ending with 00 and don't know what all the fuss is about  Maybe Porsche wants us to replace it so that the pressure in the ****************ty overflow reservoir builds up just enough to crack open. :D

Geiger makes the plastic coolant tank that splits on the bottom.

Blau makes the plastic cap that does not hold pressure for the plastic tank.

The 986 had been in production for 8 plus years and this crap is still going on. Or, buy stock in both companies....
