2007/2008 Boxster S Ordering Question(s)
 

Can anyone tell me whether the Boxster S has a factory short shift option. It appears in their catalogue as Option XCZ, but does not appear on Porsche's website configurator. If available is it worth getting or are there better aftermarket cost effective approaches?
Secondly, the Porsche sports exhaust (PSE) option, does the Boxster S come from the factor with the rounded tips with PSE, as does the Cayman, or the standard twin oblong tips?

Yes there is a factory short shift option but Porsche is not advertising it because they don't want to encourage dealers to order it for floor stock - too stiff for many buyers. B&M installed after-market is a cheaper option that is just as good IMO. There are many options in the order guide not listed on web configurator. Go to renntech.org to get 07 order guide.

I believe that PSE comes with std tips but not absolutely sure about that one.

Vincesf, I think a short shifter in the 987 is a waste. The 987 already has a shorter throw (25%?) than the 986. Save your money for the PSE or other great options.

THe PSE option is great. Get it. Much cheaper to buy the first time from the factory. Doing it through Tequipment is much more $$$. You do not get a special exhaust tip with PSE. It comes with the standard tips.

You can purchase the Chrome optional tips or the Cayman Sport Tips.

Thanks for the replies. I had a 2006 Boxster S, and the regular shift linkage was to my liking and have tested a short shift linkage which benefits from a shorter throw, but did not like the feel. I have had several S2000's (which is a great shifter, can be a bit notchy), and I currently drive a 2007 BMW 335i with a 6 speed shift, and I prefer the very solid/fluid feel of the Boxster S regular shift (hard to believe it's a cable shifter). Besides, if I change my mind, this is one item that does not cost an arm and a leg to switch out later.
