2005 Boxster Coupe Spy Shots

Found some more. These are from autoweek.com.

I modified the contrast and sharpness just a little to make it easier to see the car's lines.

Not too sure about this car guys... what are your thoughts? I rekon the Boxster looks excellent as a roadster. Don't get me wrong - the Coupe looks great, but I still think the soft top kicks its ass ;)

janzenms 08-08-2004 05:20 AM

I'm thinking the same thing, it looks a bit odd... but you never know, it might grow on us.

Why does the backend remind me of a crossfire's? It's strange seeing a roof on a boxster. Soft-top with roof up looks wayyy better.

Richard Truss 08-08-2004 08:41 PM

im not a fan. it looks like a cheap carerra to me. all the charm of the roadster is gone. :(

although it will most certainly be better with paint and trim.

janzenms 08-08-2004 08:46 PM

I agree completely. I'm really hoping it looks so bad because it has a ton of camo tape on it.

RandallNeighbour 08-09-2004 08:16 AM

I always hate the new cars that come out if I'm driving an older version of it.

Frankly, if this coupe has breakneck throttle response and keeps up with or is faster than the rice burners now out on the market in the same price range, everyone will ooh and ahh about it.

The question in my mind is this:

"When this car is seven years old and I can finally afford one, will I want it?" :)

LoveBunny 08-19-2004 07:56 PM

I think it looks pretty good but something about it reminds me of a cockroach. I still want a convertible though.

Paps 08-20-2004 12:01 AM

Yeah i agree i hate when new versions of the car i drive comes out. It really gets to me but thats life. Im not quite sure where this car will fit in the marketplace. Does anyone want a low end porsche that isnt a roadster?
Im also seething that they are changing the headlights on the boxster...im going to have to go buy an updated model when they come out...how annoying

Subanez 08-20-2004 04:11 AM

I dare say it looks similar to the RX-8 in some ways, the way the lines all come together in the rear...bleh.

Like was previously posted, I am sure it will grow on us, but it just looks like a perversion of the sexiness that is the 911.

porsche986 08-20-2004 02:41 PM

not that bad... but we need a soft top, its the boxster icon!!!!

the change to the headlights in the top pic is very very bad!!!

BAD IDEA PORSCHE!!!!

Richard Truss 08-20-2004 03:53 PM

what????

those are the new headlights???????? the top pic? the car in red? It doesn't even look like a porsche!

horrible! im SO glad i have a 2000!!!

janzenms 08-20-2004 04:26 PM

The lights in the photo above are not real. Thats a photoshop job. At one point the rumor was that the boxster headlights would be modeled after the carrera gt... hence the bad imitations of carrera gt headlights in that image.

The headlights will probably look a lot like the boxster image on the homepage of this website... although the official photos have not been released.

I think both sets of lights look like a Subaru. But remember concepts and prototype cars are often outragerous, when it comes to looks especially ie. FX45.

This is the signature look of the Porsche Boxster "The Roadster". The Boxster is meant to be driven top down!!!!! enjoying the air. I fail to see any advantages with the coupe.

porsche986 08-21-2004 01:33 AM

The red porsche is not a photoshop edited version, it is the real version... its the way the new boxster will look... its already been slagged off in shopshot weekly..

that is the new style headlights, i promise you...
heres more examples of soft top versions

The red coupe directly above looks fine. Unless they drastically drop the price, or make it FASTER than the base Carrera, I don't see the target market.

On the Yellow Boxster above the red coupe the headlights look wrong and an unexpected departure from the 986/996 heritage. I don't expect to see that car on the street. Time will tell.

porsche986 08-21-2004 07:31 AM

this boxster will be ready at the back end of 2005 and ready for sale july 06

not sure about the price.. but to me.. i would take a used 996 over this shape any day.. the whole idea was porsche didnt want the boxster to compete with the 996 sales, well they screwed that up because this time it will...

mrmickeymouse 08-21-2004 10:43 AM

You are dead on, if this is the Boxster, why buy the boxster.

I sure hope those yellow car headlights get shrunk a little bit.

I am sorry for thinking this but a normal non Porsche person will mistake the 997 for a 993.

There are some similar angles.

Lux 08-21-2004 06:05 PM

The last 2 red photochops look pretty good. The pics of the test mules don't. Looks kinda weird, actually. I don't know, I probably would've bought a coupe if it was available. I'm actually not a big fan of convertibles. But I still bought the car because I loved the way it drove. How's that for an endorsement? :D
