10inch Rears Offset Ideas?
 

Got a set of Turbo style wheels from an 911 to go on my Boxster S.

18x8.5 et52

18x10 et65

now as I understand the front ones will bolt on no problem. but I would need spacers for the rear. question is what size spacers?

I don't mind bring the wheels closer to the guards a little more than factory setting. Not sure if theres any advantage having a wider rear track only. maybe should get spacers for the front too to match the rear?

50? 47? 45?

I have a 2001 986 lowered with HR springs and my rear wheels are 18 x 10 et 65 and I run 21mm spacers in the rear.

I tried 15mm and 18mm first and I had issues with the strut hitting with those, the 21 work great for me. You will also need longer wheel bolts.

The ideal rear offset for a 10" rim is ET47. ET 65 is narrow body (aka non turbo/turbo look (C4S)). I run 993 Turbo hollow spokes in wide body fitment which is 18x10 ET40 and, to be honest ,it is a too too far out. ET45 would be perfect in my opinion.

You could run a 20mm spacer on an ET65 wheel, but to me, thats not the greatest idea. 996 Turbo wheels, by the way, are 18x11 in the rear, which absolutely does not fit on a 986 Boxster.

To make life easy, I would search for ET45 or ET47 10" rears and avoid spacers.

I am running a 10 1/2" rear wheel with a 47mm offset and they fit under the fenders perfect.

Don't want to start a new thread so I will just ask here... I'm looking to get a set of (used) wheels of following specs:

19X8 52P FRONT

19X11 45P REARS

Would these rear wheels fit a 986 at all? Maybe with narrower tyres?

You will need to zip tie the e-brake cables to the suspension arm & use spacers on an 11" rear wheel. May stick beyond fender a bit...

I run 10s on the back of mine with et47...I've yet to see anyone fit 11s on their car, especially at a lowered ride height. You'd likely need to give your car the "off road" look to fit larger under the fenders or look like this guy.

+1 on the e-brake cables...you'll need to tie them back.

Front 8 x 18 offset 50
Rear 10 x 18 offset 47

This is the Turbo Look II as well as the SportTechno rims.

That should give u a good idea what the Porsche recommendation for 10" x 18 rears should be.

If we started charging a dollar for every time someone asked if an 11 inch wheel would fit on a 986 boxster, we could hold a raffle at the end of the year ! :cool: Once again, regardless of offset, no way, no how will an 11 inch wheel fit on a 986 boxster. Just think, we could set aside an IMS slush fund ! :)

Unless you are willing to widen (roll) your rear fenders the 11" will NOT fit
I have 10" rims from a Carrera in the rear (with spacers) and they barely fit
There is no way you can fit an 11" in there without major modifications

But I'm SURE I can reduce it to a 15mm - there seems to be at least 1-1.5cm before the wheel would touch the strut.

Plan is to reduce the rears to a 15mm and put the 21's (currently 25) on the front

Not that I am interested in fitting an 11in wheel on a Boxster. But for the sakes of science or posterity even, what are the limiting factors? Would a wide-body Boxster allow for such a thing? or is it in the suspension? :confused:

In general, an 11 inch wheel has both inner and outer clearance problems . Attempting the manipulate the offset merely exacerbates the problem in either direction. I suppose in cases where a custom wide-body was going to be used, a person could resort to a high offset wheel, along with spacers, in order to get it far enough away from the strut and out toward the extended fender line.

Gary, the base of your Porsche crests in your center caps should be pointing toward your valve stems. Let's get this serious infraction corrected immediately before someone from local Porsche club sees this picture or your car. :dance:

Since they drive on the wrong side of the road over there, it would only make sense that they would have their center caps pointing in the wrong direction as well. :rolleyes:

I have 10.5s on the back of mine, and with it lowered substantially there is scrubbing on corners unfortunately.

I very much doubt you could fit anything over 9.5 without rolling your guards, just based on how close mine are considering i have rolled and slightly pumped my rear guards and I STILL scrub :(

My rim specifications:

Rims Size: 19 X 8.5" front & 19 X 10.5" rear
Offset: 45 mm front & 43 mm rear

I guess with a bit of guard massaging you could fit 11s, but it would be a real struggle.

Scrap the idea about creating an IMS "slush fund", let's put it toward establishing a psychiatric program for members who can't grasp the limitations of wheel fitment .... :eek:
