Replacing the windshield
Has anyone done it before? It's got some rock chips, and the silver trim piece around it is really not aging well for some reason. I'm considering just a new windshield and trim, and I'd rather do it myself.
Does anyone have input on how difficult it is to replace the windshield and/or the trim? -David |
Since the windshield is pretty important when it comes to safety I would recommend you let the professionals take care of it. I had mine replaced and got a recommendation from the Porsche dealer. If you have zero deductible on glass it should be free.

Glass chips
Good glass companies can now repair chips in your existing windshield.I would call around.Replacement would be my last option only if it is cracked .
just my $.02. |
The windshield is glued in with urethane and must be replaced with same. I think the windshield comes with trim moulding attached. Allow at least 24 hours curing time, before moving car to prevent leaks. urethane cures frome outside in. I use 3M. Remove glass with curved knife or piano wire. Be very careful not to damage dash or trim whin cutting out glass. Not the easiest job.

I got mine replaced about six months ago. The installation was free with the purchase of the glass, which the company had to special order. Pinkerton was the brand if I recall.
I watched the guy do it and it's not rocket science, but it does help to have specialized tools (suction mount handles). If I were you I'd just get a reputable to replace it for you. I think I paid $400. |
