broken door cubby
Over the weekend, both door cubby doors broke. They seem to have lost their spring and will not stay up. Is there a spring that fell off or a broken part that someone knows about? Is it a DIY or does the door panel need to come off?
thanks for the help, James |

Ok i took off the top piece and I see what the problem is.
The top has a small hole that the spring fits into. Well this hole or loop, is broken and the entire top will need replaceing. I am sure this will be a triple digit $$$ part, but does anyone know were to get it online? 996.555.621.03 James |
Had this problem myself two ways to fix.
1. Buy some epoxy or JB weld and repair/build up the hole. Allow it to dry then file it close to the old shape. Redrill the hole and reassemble.
2. Move the hole further in on the hinge area. As I recall there is a thick ridge that if you move past it is actually pretty strong. It will work just like it was originally designed. Method two is easier (obviously) but both work and cannot be seen. Hope this helps. ATB, Tom |
Try here for the part...
http://dcauto.gotdns.com/catalog/index.php?mode=parts&model=986&year=1997-2004&group=8§ion=807&illo=807-10 or if that link doesn't work start your search here... dcauto.com ****************************************************.com is also a good place to start. Not quite triple digit price. Good thing you didn't break the door pull handle. Those can get well into triple digits. Regards, mike |
