Jeph's Boxster for Sale?

Looks like it's gonna happen...

I know anything that strays from stock narrows your potential buyers, and I know geography plays a
factor too, but does anyone here think I could get $21k for this 2000 w/ less than 42k meticulously
maintained miles? If so, I'm $21k from a heaping pile of regret (that is, I will regret selling it, not that
the car was a regret -thought I should clarify).

dude, your car is one of the most gorgeous silver car that i have seen (beside grizz and p/l)....who ever is getting it is one lucky guy

silverboxter 08-10-2007 08:20 PM

i think you should be able to get it. last year i paid $22k for my 01 with 62k miles.

nola911 08-10-2007 08:39 PM

I would have paid it. I spent 18 for my 2000 with 40k a year ago.. I then spent 1500 on litronics and side markers, 1500 on wheels and tires, plan to spend 1500 on a hardtop. That puts me at 22,500 for a car that the previous owner drove through drive-in carwashes weekly and brought to the grocery to pick up dings and scratches. Someone will come along that appreciates the tasteful mods. I absolutely love the front end.

djomlas 08-10-2007 09:12 PM

what will you be replacing it with?

Jeph 08-10-2007 09:24 PM

If I can follow through with selling it, I'm looking at '07 3 Series Coupes.

djomlas 08-10-2007 10:12 PM

nice man, good luck with the sale. im sure you will sell that thing fast
is that your bottom dollar or?

Grizzly 08-11-2007 07:01 AM

If I didn't have already have one, I'd give you 21k for it in a heartbeat. Heck, the front end conversion alone is a 10k addition. You'll have no trouble selling it.

Shame it's not a Tip. I have a friend in Florida looking for a Tip for his wife. She used mine while they were visiting us and fell in love with it, but would prefer an auto.

JCL12 08-11-2007 07:11 AM

I paid 21.9K for an 01' box about 3-4 months ago. Only options were tip and a 6-disc, but the car only had 36K miles and was (visibly) in immaculate condition.

Cloudsurfer 08-11-2007 07:17 AM

Jeph-

Very pretty car, really like the Carerra front end. S or non S?

Patrick

Jeph 08-11-2007 09:12 AM

NO GO on the 3 Series right now

I just got back from my test drive. I drove a 335i Coupe. It was fun and fast! Terrific power (though I was shooting for a 328i Coupe but none were available on the lot)! Surprisingly, it wasn't tight enough for me... it even had the sport package. I was expecting less body roll. That's disappointing because that car was #1 on my list and I don't have a back up plan.

I think this Boxster may have spoiled me. Here's what I learned about myself.

1. Given the choice between power and finesse, I choose finesse.
2. I used to consider myself a Bimmer man first. Could I be a true Porsche man with a mere interest in Bimmers?
3. To get what I want out of a BMW, I need to get an M. -Ergo, I can't afford a BMW? (When do you suppose the M1 will come out?)

I looked briefly at Z4 Coupes but they're more than I am willing/capable of spending. I like those.

Maybe I should just wait it out until used Caymans (Plural, Caymen?) become more available/affordable.

Thanks for the compliments on the car guys. I do love the way my Boxster (non-S) looks. I wouldn't mind getting a newer 986S, but it won't look as unique... Furthermore, along with the 987, it won't solve my alleged "practicality" problem.

Ahh, stop yelling at me! I'm sorry.

The black never bothered me really. Now if ever I were to be rear ended, I'd go sans bumperettes. But I'm ok with the black. With so much goodness to look at in the front, I don't focus on the rear that much.

tracke30m3 08-11-2007 01:28 PM

I'm looking for a silver 00' 986 with around 30 to 40K miles, I'd buy your car if only it was here in CA.

$21K including transport to CA? :)

Grizzly 08-11-2007 01:39 PM

I'm glad to hear you are sticking with the Box for now. Honestly, 3 series BMWs are a dime a dozen (at least here they are).

...and your car is special. No, not special like the kids on the short bus...special like one of a kind, understated and perfect.

I totally agree with the dime-a-dozen comment. Where I currently live (very poor rural area), you'll still see several BMW 3-series in the parking lot at the local grocer. Drive around, you'll see plenty of 3-series and A4s - but no porsches! They sure stand out.

If $$ is a concern, what about a used M3 or M roadster? I was considering buying a used M3 before I joined the boxster club.

timothy 08-11-2007 02:54 PM

Jeph, on Friday I was talking up your car to my friend who lives at the same place as you. Now this?! As a coworker put it, his G35 is the Honda Accord of Uptown and BMWs are not far behind. Now no more of this selling talk and we'll all forgive you.

bmussatti 08-11-2007 02:59 PM

Hey, Jeph, you have a great car! :)

I've thought about the used M3 route. I love those cars, my roommate has one -which is in the shop presently. Those seem to be more of a maintenance issue than Porsche. The main thing that bothers me about having an M3 is the fact that I would have an old body style while the new ones are out. That's not such a big deal (ie, my Boxster), but I love the look of the new 3s so much more that I would feel slighted every time I saw one. I don't care for the M Roadster. I like the new Z4 Coupes, but also out of price range (starting around 40k).

Timothy, after today's test drive, I'll be hanging on to the Boxster a little while longer I suppose. That's funny though... the G35 is the Accord of Uptown. By the way, do you live in Uptown as well? If so, we need to grab a burger at Chip's or Jake's or something.

Bmussatti, I was reminded how great of a car I have on my drive home from the BMW test drive. (But actually, I didn't drive straight home, I drove to the Porsche Dealership to get a closer look at the Cayman.) By the way, I'll be in Chicago the 3rd week of October. Let's round up the troops again!

I live downtown about five minutes from you. Burgers sound great!

I'm with Blinkwatt on this one. If you paint your bumperettes, your ride would look even better.

NickCats 08-13-2007 11:29 AM

Jeph,

Your car rocks ! Glad to hear you are keeping it ;)

I marked the calendar for October. Look forward to seeing you again...

Nick

Jeph 08-13-2007 04:43 PM

I look forward to Chicago as always. Yet again, I wish my car were coming too, yet alas, it will be sleeping snuggly in the garage.

Earlier this year we did pizza, maybe this time around we could do Hot Dogs or something? Plus with it being Fall and all, more of you will actually bring your cars!

Chills 08-13-2007 05:50 PM

Glad to see you are keeping your Box. I absolutely love the front bumper/light combo. Very unique.

dkh 12-30-2007 05:05 PM

Hey guys - I work in Uptown! Maybe we could grab a cup at Starbucks sometime and take over the parking lot with Boxsters! No doubt Uptown area has some amazing cars - lots of BMWs, lots of Porsches, the occasional Ferrari, Lamborghini, Aston Martin. But I love my Boxster the most!

Ken

Hey Ken,

Good to see you here. Post some pics of your 'S'!! It's gorgeous!,

I'll be joining you soon back on the road as I ordered a 3.2L for my Boxster from Silver Star Recycling. Maybe by the end of January I'll be back on the road. Waxahachie has some great FM roads to drive on, but I'm sure you've found those already.

Take care,

Mike

Wasn't your ride a base? I'd be interested in seeing how you like the extra 35hp on your ride.

first of all to Jeph and everyone - sorry that I hijacked this post (although it had been dormant for awhile)

Thanks for the link Jeph to the mini-meet in Dallas!

Hi Mike - thanks for the compliments on my S! I think it's gorgeous too but it's just a rock stock 2000S - these Boxsters are ALL gorgeous! You'd think since I'm a photographer I would have some great shots of it - but not yet. I may post a few of some quick shots I did just to show my father-in-law.

Who's putting in that 3.2L for you Mike? Good to hear you're getting some power back in your car! I still haven't found all the good FM roads around Waxahachie yet, funny you should mention that - I was actually sitting down right now to Mapquest the area and see what my options were. One nice twisty route (for a few miles) is out FM878 from Waxahachie to Palmer. I know it fairly well because it's my scenic way home on days when I need a more relaxing drive home.

Mike - you're a Dallasite too. Make that short scenic drive north to Dallas and join in with this thread: http://www.986forum.com/forums/showthread.php?p=130914#post130914

Glad to see you're keeping it. I can't have someone else running around with the conversion. What if an Oklahoman bought it. :p
