How does the BDI look like it would damage the car? The hitch mount goes in existing holes behind the license plate. The only part that actually touches the car is two straps that are rubber coated on the ends that fit inside the trunk lid. Not being cheap, I just don't want to piss away money if this will work just as well.

The problem we came across on my dad's Turbo was the gap between the rear bumper support and the license plate. I'm just going to take my car in this week and have them tear it down and see if it fits. I guess I'll be the guinea pig. I'll let you guys know how it goes.

I had the bird the rack until someone smashed into it. Had to take it to a mechanic to get it up on the lift for removal. The owner of the company installed it for me at his place as mine was prototype of some sort. Took about an hour, would have been faster if we had a lift. A good system but you had to be very careful when using it as something was always dangling over the trunk.

The other option is the Wilwood rack that attaches to the license plate and used a hitch mount. Very expensive as you had to buy Yakim or Thule bike carriers in addition to the wilwood unit. I was going to give this one a shot using the new ultra light modern looking Saris Thelma bike carrier. But the Willwood guy never wrote me back.

Both methods seem well regarded.
