Great Boxster day
My 10 year old and I went on an extremely nice 2 hour ride today, up to the peak of our local "mountain". 14 miles of the twisties in the exteme, not much traffic, hot and sunny, top down, and 300 horses.....
We were all smiles. It never ceases to amaze me how well the car handles, how balanced it is and how well it stays "stuck". The uphill portion was fun, I kept it mostly in 3rd, with some downshifts, but going down the 4000 feet, the degree of grade and very tight turns was WAY fun. I kept it in 2nd mostly, using the tranny to help keep the downhill speed down, revving between 4 to 6 k rpms all the way down. We got stuck behind slower cars only a couple of times, and we had several nicely cooporative people who used the turnouts to let us zoom past. San Diego people!! Do any of you to Palomar Mtn runs?? Early Saturday mornings are a great time to really drive your baby on roads that were meant for Porsches. We went up the 78, through Ramona, up to the 79, then took the 76 to the increadible S7 hwy. Then on to the S6 back down to the 76. 2 hours that I promise will be the best time you could possible spend with your clothes on. It would be a "cool" thing to get some guys to do this run on some type of regular basis. Saw lots of bikes (of course) and 2 Boxsters, one 993, and one 996 during our drive. |
I am jealous...I wanted to get out for a ride but I had a bedroom to paint.

its funny
I have done this run 3 times now since we moved to SD from the "OC". It was way more fun than the ortega, and equally as fun as Kanan Dume Road from the 101 to the coast at Malibu.
When I think of all the times I have wanted to go and drive these roads and stoped and thought, no it takes too much time and I have all this stuff to do....."hunnydoos" as wifey calls them. Then you free up some time and go and remember how much fun it is. I wanna go every day. |
I have added to my "To Do List" of Boxster runs. Thanks for the info.

no problem,....perhaps an interesting idea for a permanent thread would be to post your "sweet to drive roads in my area"
of course there will be those who getting to "talk" about their prime driving playgrounds vil be difficult. ve have our vays of making you talk...... |

not so great boxster day
Couple Saturdays ago, planned a road around our state oklahoma. Two months of rainy weather has really limited our top down fun drive time.
My wife and myself got up early, packed sandwiches, small ice chest, swimsuits for a possible dip in one of our river streams. Left home, sun coming up 70 degrees with high in upper 80's later. Looking good, cruising down the highway at 75, sunscreen on, new CD in changer, then.... Five miles from home engine makes noise, shimmys a little then dies. Coast to side of road and observe as oil runs out of engine. Not good. Gets towed to local porsche shop and they still do not know problem but simply say it is not good. Thanks to the forum they have helped me diagnosis it as IMS failure and will require a new engine. No trip, no warranty and a new engine, bummer! Again thanks to the forum and I had it delivered the local porsche factory dealer today who has experience with this problem and they should tear down in next couple days. Also, they will help try and contact Porsche about some possible assisstance. All this said, I would still not like to part with my Boxster S. I have had miatas, Mercedes, lexus and other Porsches, but this boxster s is super fun to drive so will probably stick with it. Thanks again for assistance on my other thread koboxster |

Pecivil,
Color me jealous ! When I used to live in El Cajon my girlfriend lived in Harbison Canyon. What a great ride up there in my old Honda CRX. Man would it be great to take the Box out there and tackle some of those roads. Nothing like that here in the windy city :( Nick |
I'll be takin' the boxster up to the Smokey Mountains this weekend.. These cars love the roads around there....

How can they call it the "windy city" if it doesn't have windy roads? ;) |
Good one, Blevins
Do you know why they call Chicago the windy city ? I always thought it was because of the wind : http://www.islandnet.com/~see/weather/whys/chicago.htm Nick |
