should i be worried?
Hi Guys-
I had my engine cover off and I notice this hose had some stuff on it's probably oil. What is this hose? Should I be worried? Does it need to replaced, asap? Any info would be great. |
Many of these cars seem to get a very light bit of oil in the intake, however yours looks like perhaps a bit more than very light. Could be an early sign of Air/Oil Separator.

If the back of the car is to the right, that looks like the oil filler tube. They have been known to fail or crack. It's not an expensive part.
I'd worry more if it were around the throttle body, or the vacuum lines that connect to it. |
when i opened my engine cover for the 1st time i had some oil around the filler tube as well...it turned out that from all the vibrations and whatnot it just came loose, and it was obvious that it just got disconnected. so i plugged it back in and no problems anymore or oil residue.
so take a look at that. |
See my post about replacing mine. It's a dirty job, but worth it.

thanks for the link...nice write up but A/OS replacement DIY steps are way beyond my skill level. If needed, then it will have to go to the mechanic.
Couldn't I just replace the oil filler tube? That's where I'm seeing the oil. If it's just a matter or wiggle/pull and simple swap of the part then I can do that. Part Number for oil filler tube? Just curious, what are the signs when your a/os is starting to go besides seeing smoke? Can you continue to drive? |

dj, my oil filler tube was cracked at the bottom and my oil separator was fine. So they both don't aways crap out at the same time.
The oil filler tube is "lightweight high performance Porsche plastic" and has an accordian type of bendable area on it (like a bendable straw) that cracks over time. Alas, this is the problem with newer Porsches. Lots of plastic parts that don't stand up to heat and years of use like the older, heavier metal ones used in the classic Porsches. |
yeah thats why i said most likely, not that it will be bad.
hopefully its just the tube |
My tube wasn't loose so I think I might replace it. Maybe it's cracked.
To replace the tube is it just a mater of wiggling it loose, any clamps or screws that needs to be loosen? Does anyone have a part number for this oil filler tube? |
