Can a 3.2 engine be transplanted into a 97 2.5?

just had a question to ask....can a 3.2l engine be put in a 97 2.5? if it can what else is needed from the 3.2 such as computer (ecu) and wiring harness?? also does the tranny need to be changed as well? thanks.

It can be done, but not worth the cost. From 97-99 Porsche used a regular style throttle cable, from 00+ they used what's known to be called e-gas,which is basically an electronically controlled throttle. You would have to take the entire throttle assembly from the 3.2 along with everything else which basically isn't worth it. The 2.5L tranny should be reusable, but I'm not 100% sure(3.4L match up to the 2.5L tranny).

If you going to put a 3.2L might as well make a 3.4L(or 3.6L) because the cost shouldn't be much more.

I totally agree with blinkwatt here. If you are doing an engine swap and going for more horsepower you should at least go with the 3.4 that they put in the boxster S now which is 295 hp, it wont be much more money than your already spending. You get almost an extra 45 horsepower over the 3.2 which is almost 20% more. the 295hp 3.4 is also exactly the same amount of hp that my 2001 911 had, and a boxster is lighter.

I don't know if it will be an exact 295hp due to the modification done to the intake to get it to fit in the 2.5L. Either way, according to Trent Carter(PPBB), his Box was doing 4.5 0-60s with the 3.4L. Those 4.5 seconds are faster then a 996 with a 3.4L.

The 3.2 can be put into your boxster and you don't need to upgrade to egas. I helped a fellow in the UK do it. You can contact him on renntech his id is Kanin.

As stated the 3.2 is no easier than the 3.4 so unless you get the 3.2 really cheap, not really worth it.

As for the intake limiting the hp of the 3.4 transplant. Simply not true. My old 3.4 put down better hp at the wheels than a 3.4 996 on the same dyno on the same day.
