navigation system

I did not opt for the navigation system in my new porsche order. On a recent road trip ( in my crossover ) I was wishing I had a navigation system. Since I plan many road trips when my new boxster arrives, I am now regretting not ordering the NAV system. Has anyone on this forum put in an after market NAV system ? I would imagine that all the wiring is there and all you need is the system and know how. I know there are aftermarket portable ones but I prefer the built in look and function. Any responses will be appreciated.

Do a search. I put in a Pioneer AVIC D3 recently, did the install myself. It took a while but went smoothly and was problem-free.

Here's the link:

Since this was taken I've made a new face frame out of MFB and stretched vinyl. Looks awesome... factory.

This is an expensive (by most people's standards) upgrade/install on a 987, particularly with the BOSE. I've been evaluating the cost of putting in the OEM PCM which would integrate with the BOSE hardware on my own car vs. the anticipated length of future ownership (which is what I'm undecided on). The PCM install is about 3,700 or so for the unit from Suncoast plus 1-1500 for the install at a dealer (it's about a day's job). If you go with the Pioneer or other aftermarket unit, you're looking at the cost of the unit, plus an audio hardware replace (if Bose), plus installation costs, so the two prices are not much different.

Portable device

I would consider going with a portable device like Garmin. I love that I can use it in any car that I drive.
