Ebay for tires??
I am thinking about buying a couple rear tires for the box on ebay. Is there anything I should look out for on there?

sure ...
things you don't have to worry about when buying new and locally
shipping costs mounting/balancing costs tread depth even (measure in 3 places) cupping I've bought used mounted on wheels tires with great luck, but they were from a dealer who was selling because they took them in trade after 2k miles or so. I'd not buy used except I could see and measure them and had a balance-able guarantee. |
Are you buying new or used?
If you're going new, I think it'd be wise to go the tirerack.com route. They'll ship it to an installer for you... |
Tire rack has been very very good to me! :D

Tires on ebay
I have recently purchased almost new tires with very low mileage on ebay and found they were over 5 years old when they arrived, which is pushing the edge of safety according to some sources. People take off tires from new vehicles, put them in the garage for a few years and then sell them when they clean up. So if buying used, ask for the date code off each tire to make sure you are OK. As for new, I think prices from Tire Rack are competitive with anything I have found on ebay.

I was looking new. As for tirerack, I don't really see how they are that much cheaper (from what i've seen) after you buy them, then have to have somebody mount/balance them. Seems cheaper, or about even to go local and save the hassle. Maybe I just haven't looked at the right tire...dunno.
