What is this part?

Washing my car today (2002 S) and I noticed this hanging out of the front passager airduct.
What is this?
It looks like a gov't tracking device.
thanks for your help.
James

It's a proximity sensor, if it senses the car in front of you is too close, it tells your car's engine to slow down and automatically applies the brakes too.

A very expensive option for the 986.

I'm just kidding, it's the outside temperature sensor. Probably got knocked loose from its bracket behind the grill.

Yup outside air temp sensor. It just slides into a small circle. Doesn't stay put very well.
