Anyone installed a HID kit?

After alot of thinking and adding stuff up it only makes sense for me to go HID on my Halogen headlamp assembly. I use Sylvania Silverstars and while they do what I want them to,they are costly($35/pair) and they don't last that long. So after seeing a few threads about HID kits I'm sold on them.

Does anyone here have a HID kit on their Boxster? Do these kits require splicing into the car's power supply to power the ballast or is there some kind of harness it connects to?

I have seen on Renntech someone did an HID conversion with the H7 type bulbs, and it turned out well. The beam pattern was just about identical. Seems like the Porsche halogen headlamps do pretty well with HID conversions.

Heck of a lot cheaper than the Litronics! I'm just glad my car came with 'em!

I'm weary of those kits for Boxsters.

I bought one for my car a long time ago and attempted to install it. The lamp itself was too long and there was a shield preventing it from fitting properly.

I ended up installing the kit in a Mazda 3 (also H7 lights). To this day they, surprisingly, still work, but just reading the instructions for installation should make you worry. They're written in broken/poorly translated English.

There's no splicing required with those kits usually.

The lamp was too long,like the HID bulb was too long? What shield are referring to?

Threads over on PPBB from someone doing the install

He has them working and is now taking measurements to assure himself that they produce no more heat than the stock ones.

Has pictures. Hasn't used them long.

I have a set of them and LOVE them.

There is a video of them on my you tube, i have a better one i plan on posting monday.

From helping a few people install the kits I say get it just don't be cheap, I have the Hella kit, It was 400 I think. The kit Robert bought on PPBB was under $100 but it seems like a good kit.

There is not any cutting, splicing, or rain dancing, its a very easy kit.

In our lights the lens decides where the light goes so adding these will not change your beam pattern, what the light does is produce more output ( I am not an engineer, mechanic, or even in the car buisness) so you have the same beam but i see further and clearer than with any other light I have tried.

Good to hear. So I take it that the OEM H7 harness connects via some type of harness to the ballast?

I'm looking to do it for several reasons;

1. Safety,as my foot gets heavier I would love to see further ahead of me.
2. Look,those thing look awesome,I can't even tell if a car has a conversion kit or OEM Xenons as long as the temp it's a 4300k kit.
3. Cost,Silverstar are expensive to keep replacing,these HIDs are supposed to last longer

That link you supplied was for a 50w,10000k HID set up,the color coming off the bulb would be funny. Try this;

It would have the OEM look and use less power & run cooler then the halogen. The 4300k rating is what many OEM use,so it won't look like some ricer.

The kits in includes the ballast(converter from halogen-HID), harness and HID bulb. It only takes 1/2hour to 1.5 hours to install and is supposed to be really simple.

if you scroll down to the pics under description it shows the 4300 as "absolute white" and that isnt attractive to me.

I think the 10k color "deep blue" actually wouldn't look ricer , most people probably would think thats how porsche lights come from the factory, dont you think?


But if I got either kit it would work for a boxster S?

Could you post pics when you have a chance? I notice that yours run at 50watts,I haven't heard of HID running on that much power,at least for a Boxster.

That's a review and write-up about everything in the kit.

You will notice 10k... "Deep blue" is really more of a violet or purple. It does not look similar to the xenon lights you're used to seeing on the road or Porsche's Litronics.

Furthermore, 10k will not illuminate as well as 4300 or 5000. It's not wise to sacrifice safety for looks -because that's all 10k is good for -looks.
