Exhaust idea
Hey gang, I've been toying around with some exhaust ideas because I'm tired of the boxster being so quiet. I was thinking a good loud exhaust system with lots of flow could be had with the fabspeed merged headers, fabspeed bypass pipes, and a GHL muffler. Do you guys think this combo would be compatable? Here are the pics of each. Thanks!

Those headers are ALOT. Sure you don't want to just put on the exhaust and bypass pipes first and see if that's more then enough before spending $2k+ on those headers?
|
if you just want a LOUD exhaust (with maybe some hp gain) go with the GHL

bypass pipes = CELs

Blink, I hear you those headers are $2,200  but they seem one of the best since it has a highflow cat integrated into it with all the 02 bungs. Most systems I see for our cars are of the non-cat variety without all the 02 bungs. I'm pretty sure all the non cat headers will probably cause a CEL. Since the stock exhaust manifold looks totally inefficent, might as well let the engine breath and replace the whole thing. |
Even with earplugs the ringing in your ears will leave you deaf after a short trip.
Have fun w/that. |

I've NEVER seen a set of headers WITHOUT the bung holes on them. I think you are mistaken. Now it is rare to see the 1st set of cats intergrated into the headers, that part is true. I've seen it on 2 diff. brands. But most don't have that feature but STILL have the bung holes for the sensors. |
I can assure you that on a 3.2L the bypass pipes will not cause a CEL light. I agree that the bypass and the muffler is probably enough for improved tonal quality. Maybe too much so as resonance gets old fast especially for passengers i.e., spouse or girlfriend. The header would be nice but at $2,200+ I'm not so sure it would be worth it. Am waiting for Che to finish development of his 3.2L header.

Bypass pipes do not give CEL I have them on no problems and the sound and performance are very good. I have desnorkeld and snorkled back again really no diff in performance but the bypass pipes were amazing .I did remove the foam from the air filter last night I will test this weekend but I tell ya that foam is way restrictive I cant see any reason fo it being there.
